A few of us did a 60km ride at Fossil’s today and had a ball (even if I did have the biggest come off for the day). I am knackered, so not much of a report tonight. What a cracker of a day!!!! :woohoo:
I had a great day, Thanks Fossil, you certainly live in a handy place for a dirt bike rider!!
July 8, 2011 at 10:29 pm #204595You fell off  Oh the shock

Can’t wait for the report

July 8, 2011 at 10:44 pm #204600Yep had a come off today. First one in ages actually.
It was an uphill, high side, over the hangers, face plant. You will have to ask Moose how it scored for laughter value..
July 9, 2011 at 12:11 pm #204602A bit of a report, sorry no pics, I had a little bit of a come off, which I am blaming for the demise in my trusty old “trail camera”
It has been a few years since we have hit Fossil’s place for a ride, I dunno why, as it has some of the best riding around these parts. Being in the back blocks so to speak, it doesn’t see the bike traffic some of the other local forest see, so all the trails are in great condition. Moose and I arrived early and had the bikes unloaded before Fossil surfaced, we sent Fossil to make some coffees as it was bloody freezing (for north coast standards, the frost was a big one but it had nothing on the one we witnessed at Lithgow at the birthday ride)
It wasn’t long before Corey8 came rattling up the driveway, closely followed by Strucky then RiderX and his nephews Brown and Brown.
WE all kitted up and headed out Fossil’s back gate with Fossil leading the way, straight into some single trail, I was first cornerman for the day and it was here I made a mistake that nearly ended the day for two of us. As everyone passed through the corner I noticed Moose was missing, I waited a minute or two before making the decision to go back and look for him, thinking that there may be a problem with his bike. Not thinking I blasted my way back along the single trail only to round a corner to meet face to face with RiderX coming at full song. He went left and so did I and only just managed to miss a head on by mere millimeters. Thank God it was RiderX coming the other way and not someone less trail savvy, how we missed one another still has me amazed. If we had of hit it would have been my fault entirely.Anyhow with the near miss out of the way, we headed into the scrub and up the first and biggest hill for the day. I roared up it full of confidence only to hit a loose boulder that speared me into a rutt and the XR stopped abruptly and flung me over the hangers and face first into the rocky ground. Not really hurt I quickly jumped to my feet only to hear the familiar laugh of my mate Moose. I turned the XR around and headed back to the bottom for another run at the hill only to find on my 2nd attempt that the hill was blocked further up by another rider that had come to grief on the final rocky step up. So back to the bottom for my third run at the hill, which ended well, with me finally getting to the top.
There were several other rocky hills that we had to either ascend or descend through out the day, all of which were a challenge but great fun. Strucky came to grief on one of the biggest and ugliest down hills I have seen for a while and while I waited for him at the bottom I could hear a barrage of expletives filtering down through the bush from up the hill. Not often you hear Strucky go off..LOL.
The beauty of riding with a local is that your time in the bush is not wasted looking for trails and Fossil did a great job linking up some great trails that had a bit of everything that tested all the riders on the ride. Some of the sweetest freshly cut singles I have ridden ever greeted us about halfway through the ride and continued right through to the end. What a great days riding that we finished off with a sausage sizzle a few beers and a ton of laughs. Thanks guys for a great day.
Kram would have loved it, pity he couldn’t make it and stayed home racking up brownie points for another day.
July 9, 2011 at 12:41 pm #204609Got the message from Mick about the ride earlier in the week about 3 hours after my family had organised a BBQ at south west rocks to celebrate the birth of my brothers little girl. So after a little thought i came to the decision that family comes first and thats why OBT is my family  :pinch:
I loaded up the bike in the work ute and rattled my way down to fossels joint arriving at 8.30 for a 9am ride only to find a very relaxed Mick and Moose and i could see there was no rush to kit up in a hurry to roll out. the rest soon arrived and we soon got going.
the first 15 or so K’s was pretty open cruizey trails and was a nice free flowing ride whit not to much to report on then at some stage we rode out of plain trails into bike heaven with some perfect little fast hills, red wet slipper clay, rocks, tight singles, great down hills, deep water holes, a few well graded fire trails that had burms corner to corner and the mix went on and on and i couldnt stop smiling.
At the end of the ride Fossel said he was going to take us for a loop around his personal track so he took off and moose on his tail and i was on moose’s tail then i realised i had about 350cc to much for the track and it was plenty of laughes till i thought i would make a sneaky move and shoot through a little gap the kids have made to get around moose but the CRF50 seems to be a little narrower then my DRZ and i bounced off a few trees
only issues of the day was i coped a rock off fozzil’s bike and it took a chunk out of the bottom of my shroud so looks like i can now make them black as well
Thanks heaps mick for the invite and fossil for hooking the trails up and moose for the laughs and a couple of little battles and every one else that showed up to.
Sorry you didn’t make it Kram but to be expected riding a husky mate you need to have shares in them to get faster parts

When you have great toys to play with and great places nearby to play with them, the temptation is to much to resist. :woohoo:

Should have used some 100 mile/hr tape mate  👿
Axle Nuts are overrated :laugh:July 13, 2011 at 12:44 pm #204665It was a cold morning. There was frost on the ground.
The men rode their motorbikes through the thick bush. Some parts were rough and difficult to ride over.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSEN_ObHk7cAll the men were happy because they had overcome the challenges. Some were so happy they smiled. One man hid because he has a funny nose.

You have an awesome report writing style Mate, not so much understated as hardly stated at all!!
Thanks
