Well the old bulls south coast ride weekend has been done and dusted (so I’m told). Here’s my take on the weekend.

After posting up the first ever old bulls Sc ride, I was excited to think that I would get to share some of my backyard with some fellow old bulls, but i have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the response.
Anyway, with organising underway, it was going to be a pub stay weekend at a place called Araluen.

The way i like to do these rides is work out accommodation, fuel, food(lunch dinner breakfast) and have everybody split the total cost.
Support vehicle crew get to stay for free.

With all the planning done the weekend came around very quickly, but with only 8 old bulls(including pauly and myself, i opened up the ride to some local dropkicks.:P and it didn’t take long to fill up.

Arrangements were made to meet on the road at 6.30am sat morning. At 5.55am I get a call from Crash (pinball wizard) , do you know anywhere I can leave a car, our plan has gone to shit. I had a think about it but couldn’t link of somewhere, so he would have to keep coming.
We all arrived at the start point, met everyone suited up and we were ready to go. Quick briefing and into it.
Now being the lead you don’t really get to see to much, but i was hoping that everybody was having a good time. The morning tracks flowed pretty well and we were making very good time. I stopped for a rest break, when looking around at everybody, they had all changed in appearance-they all looked a funny shade of brown/ yellow.:woohoo:  Apparently the dust was bad, real bad. Now not very often is it good to be the lead, but I was sure glad to be out in front this time:lol: 😆

It was here that I decided to change routes and add some more singles-(to try and get away from the dust) but found ourselves in a set of singles with trees down everywhere.
When we finally got out of there it was a B line to Pork chop hill and our lunch break. As the crew arrived at the bottom of porkchop, there were a few comments( of which I cant repeat):whistle: which is pretty much standard when people first come across it.

Now I think we had about 8 different riders have attempts at the mighty hill, with only 1 success.;) ( way to go nathe) but there was a bit of carnage.

Lunch was served, with cold meat sangas, coleslaw, potato salad, cakes bickies and softies, chockies. At this point there was a little bitchen goin on, apparently, some idiot forgot the utensils. :(and I gotta say, for a bunch of so called burly moto riding heamen, you are all a bunch of sissy’s:lol: 😆 😆 Tuffin up sooks, take off your skirts and let your immune system take care of it.:P

During lunch, assessments were made of the failed attempts at the chop and it was discovered, 1 rear hub was razzed, 1 front dick was bent, the pride of 4 riders was dented and 1 rider was bragging for all it’s worth.

With full bellies we were off to the pub. we had about 2.5 hrs before we would get there so the pace was on.
As I lead them into some single a call came over the radio-we have a problem and somebody had the shits big time.:( :S . No literally, he was frantically searching for poo tickets before it was too late.
At our next stop there was some laughter and ribbing going on about the events and it was decided to get to the pub as quick as possible.
The next bit of trail is one of those real good sections which go through creeks and fast flowing, finishing with a steep hill climb to the lookout, this track is one of my favourites on the trip over and by the look on everyones face, they all agreed.

We are now into a section which is very similar to the “Sunny Corner Loam” and with a few get offs, everyone was tonguing for a beer. The last section of bush before we hit the transport section to the pub is unreal – 4th/5th pinged with smooth erosion mounds and everyone was launching themselves towards the moon.

Once we got to the Pub, the banter started while air filters were changed(someone said it was dusty)but mine was as clean as it went in.
Everyone hit the showers and we all settled in for the nights festivities (drinking, choits, darts, pool, pinnies, dukebox etc).
This is where I have renamed our ex King, Crash. This man is a “pinball wizzard”, obviously the result of a misspent youth in the milkbar, :P he put $2 bucks in and must of played for 2 hours, i think he popped it every game (legend). As the night wore on, the numbers dwindled as riders snuck off and at 2am the last 3 (resort, nathe and myself) had out last rum and hit the fart sack.

    Good report Hatto.

    Wish I could’ve come along.

I’ll make the effort next year for sure.

Pork Chop is very daunting when you get there. Not had a go myself, but keen to.

Crash the pinball wizard. He is a man of many talents.

Me and my Bro shit the bed on saturday morning so we were milling around the Cullendulla servo for a while waiting for the convoy to show up, when it did everyone was ready to ride except the fearless (useless) leader Hatto who waited until the last possible minute to rewire his left hand throttle

We were into it and it was dusty but what can you expect with 22 riders, double corner man worked well, don’t get too bored with someone to talk shit with while you wait for the sweep

The single tracks were sweet and the track with the creek crossings that Hatto spoke of is awesome, on the way back me and my brother had the best race all the way through it, luckily we got to do cornerman at the end of it because we were rooted and needed the rest.

Thanks heaps for organising the ride Hatto and to everyone that came and made it a cool weekend, champion support drivers too ;)

After a bit of a f&$ked up start, the weekend was brilliant!

Ghosty, Dr & Myself arrived at the pre, pre-destination, destination meeting place 25 minutes late (sorry fellas – I hate it when people are late – almost as much as standard tube running riders!) drove to pre destination for coffee and the final pick-up of riders, then on to the start spot.
Intros, Suited up & took off. It was a good mix of fire, twin and single. Everyone seemed to be going well. The dust was its usual annoying self, but the riding was terrific. There were certainly some South Coast characters on the ride, obviously good mates – ripping into each other and taking the piss big time! They were having a ball – like the rest on us Northern brothers.
LC seemed to be loving the love his new Berg was giving him, and Green450 was killing it. Clean boy Hatto couldn’t understand where all the dust was coming from!!!!!
There were some great uphills and endless windrows – it was a great morning.
Then it was time for everyone to meet ‘the ego killer’ – PORKCHOP!
It is an awesome sight. A handful of idiots had a go……….and after about an hour of f*%#ing around, 1 man stood tall – a great reward for such persistence. He got there after inching away at it for what seemed to be ages, well done Nath. The rest of us had to give up and head to lunch in depression.

    More later.

    Part 2

Sunday morning sore a cold start,:( fog was in and every body was loitering around the fire in the pub waiting for their breakfast. There were a few discussions about snoring, and shenanigans from the night before and I can think of 4 soldiers who were a little on the slow side (I have no idea why)

Breakfast was served -cereal, b&eggs, toast, juice, tea, coffee and it was time to get motivated.
With the gear packed and bikes fueled up, quick photo in front of the pub and we were off on a transport section. By the time we turned into the bush it was freezing the hands and chin. :woohoo:
It seemed like everybody was in the mood,:silly: with some serious pace and windrow aeronautical maneuvers a plenty, the brothers (lc4skin and green 450) were on fire I was told with neither giving an inch as they smashed the 6 creeks track.

Once we got down to the bottom of the valley, I turned them into some singles to warm them up and that it did, with all riders warming up quickly.
My local riders down here have a couple of new riders in the group with special names-wombat and echidna. These two got there names because they spend alot of time on the ground on all fours, and echidna was leading the count. Over the course of the weekend so far, he had been keeping tally of his achievements and at the start of the second single was at 16 visits to the turf(great effort) 😆
By the time he came out of the single his count was at 22- now that is some serious commitment, and to still be laughing shows testament to his character.
We were getting close to lunch, and some were wrecked so it was decided to cruise to lunch.
Lunch was by the river at nelligen where everyone relaxed. There was only a short trip back to the cars after lunch, so that all the guys who had to travel got away early enough.

Thanks to the old bulls who came down for the ride, I hope you all had a good time, good to catch up with you again, I had a great weekend, showing you some of our south coast riding, and sorry for the dust-although I didn’t see any.

Crash(pinball wizard) had the camera out a bit so he will post some photos i’m sure

Same again for everything Adam said.

I’m sure I’ll be up to it next year, and if perchance I’m not, I’ll volunteer for support like I should have this year.

Had a great nights sleep – warm as toast! Awoke to plenty of fog and mist. A very cool morning. The breakfast the Pub laid on was just what we all needed, it was a cracker.
Then we packed up, dressed up and fuelled up. Then we were off.
It started off with plenty of ‘Sunny Corner Loam’ (read rock studded firetrail) I came down a beauty, knocked the stuffing out of me….lucky nobody saw it……a bit pathetic really….I broke my golden rule – it takes ages to warm up and get in the groove, so just plod along! Whhhhack, ouch!

The windrows were terrific all weekend, some were huge, some had shocking landing angles….you know the ones! But overall, great.

When the ground/ track changed to a dark colour, you knew it was sweet loam time……and off everyone went. There were some great tracks…..the creek track was a goody. So was the uphills….the 650 loves the uphills…..it just wants to go!!!

Ghosty had a hilarious moment when he went to sneak around a log……however, his brake lever caught it by a millimetre. The bike stopped dead…..but he kept going….the perfect ball crusher with underbar high flying ‘W’. We snapped the lever off trying to straighten it. He then made up a temporary fix to finish the day.

Not long after the Dr thought he’d stretch the 300’s legs a little and go around the 650. We traded pozzies a few times before he came into a flip flop left right then a hard right hander. As he went passed me under brakes (I usually have to move the engine signal mechanism and tell the steering wheel attendant we are approaching a corner and need to take action (picture the wheelhouse on the Titanic when they sight the Iceberg!!!!) So, he braked a little later than the 650 and locked her up. From here on, things went in slow motion and I’m sure I could telepathically hear his thoughts……”Oooooooossssshhhhhiiittttt………why did I brake so late?……..Ooooo how far does the ravene drop down……..will I be able to get my bike back out……..Will anyone see me…..!!!! It was funny as…..anyway, there was a slightly raised edge that saved his arse and kept him on the road……….lucky D, lucky boy.

We had a great lunch on the river at Nelligan, a lovely spot. Then just a short dash back to the cars.

Hatto put on a great weekend. Looked after all of us like ‘silkworms’. Thanks Hatto, great job. We even got some cash back!
Thanks also to those like Pauly who helped out in prep. and on the weekend. Thanks to the Pub for the great meals and atmosphere they supplied, very good. Thanks also goes to all the local South coast boys for making us feel welcome and showing us a great time!

That was to keep my neck and nose warm for the morning when it was only about 2 degrees and we had some open stuff to ride before we could warm up.
