Well finally got the RMX out into some proper bush. Met up with Twobanger at the Zigzag about 8am with no set plans other than riding as much single as we could handle. With me getting to know the RMX and Twobanger being off the bike for a few months with an injury we planned on a cruisey ride.
We headed out into some familiar singles and onto the first of a few good hills we managed to find for the day. This is a well used, rutted out hill and would be a test for me on the 2 stroke. Twobanger went first and made it straight to the top. Off I went to find the RMX tractored up the hill as easy as any 4 stroke I have ridden. Heaps of grunt down low and plenty of traction.
I forgot to take my camera. I took a couple of photos and video on my iphone but most turned out crap.
Twobanger making a way around another fallen tree. There was a small moss covered rock to get over that was so slipper I fell over just trying to walk it.We rode on finding plenty of tight single and a couple more hills. A couple of weeks back the area around the Blue Mountains coped a hiding with some big storms which meant out in the bush there was plenty of fallen timber. I lost count of how many trees we needed to find a way around, some of which were down across steep hills.
We managed to find some a couple new single tracks, one was had some fun technical sections and the other took us through a deep gully. The climb out gave us a bit of a workout with some grunting, pushing, swearing and sweating before we got to the top. The tough hills is where I notice the big difference between the DRZ and the RMX. The DRZ is obviously much easier to start on the side of a hill with the button start but the RMX is SOOOOOOOO much easier to pick up when it’s upside down on the side of a hill it more than makes up for not having a button.
All up we did about 95km most of which was single. I can say I’m more than happy with the RMX. It’s an easy bike to ride and I just kinda like the raw simplicity of it.

July 31, 2011 at 2:34 am #205815Had a top day out, weather was perfect and as i had put my jacket into get the zipper replaced was glad it wasn’t raining.
Just looked at my last ride report and its been 4 months off the bike, which was obvious when i almost ran off the 3rd or so corner. So realized i was rusty and decided to cruise or end up damaged again.
Was impressed witht the RMZ on the climbs and it sounds like it can lug from low revs a lot better than the husky,we picked up a few more hills for a trial run. Also his Duro tire was gripping awesome from what i saw up close so id give one a try.
Wasn’t planning on carrying any bikes but was trying to link a track up in the opposite direction and chose a hard climb out.But proved my shoulders recovered and its just everything ele thats suffering now:laugh:
Only downside the husky was starting to leave a trail of parts behind and last count was the spring and ball from the kick starter and the springs off the stand and tore the grab handle off the back end but had a top day out all the same.July 31, 2011 at 2:36 am #205816Only got a few pics,
July 31, 2011 at 12:26 pm #205817Nice one guyes, looks like a fun day out,I know what you mean about the trees, theres heaps of em down.
The RMX is about as much bike as I want to pick up of the ground,,,less would be better.July 31, 2011 at 1:48 pm #205818Teza never seen so many trees down at once, wont be long and detours will be sorted,i like riding over them though.Just a pain when there big ones and there hard to get around.
