Do you have to remove the rear subframe to remove the carby from a 2002 xr250L (xr250y)?
The service manual kind of infers this without actually saying so.
I imagine the setups the same for a xr400 od similar vintage.

    hi riverright,

On my XR400 it is definately easier to get to the carby with the subframe removed as the airbox comes out with it.
I have’nt tried to remove it all in situ as it only takes ten mins to remove the tank, subframe and rear guard etc.
make life easy for yourself i always say…
    Hope this helps

Dunno about the 250 but I have never removed the subframe off a XR600 or 650 to get the carby out.

    Thanks fellas,
I’ll throw that in the mix,
Mick, Do you recall an overview of your method for extracting an xr carby?
    regards

First I disconnect the cables then I undo both clamps on the rubbers that connec ct the carby to the engine and airbox. Push the rubber that connects the carby to the airbox towards the back of the bike and remove that side first. Then twist the carby so that it comes out of the rubbber connecting it to the engine, whilst pulling the carb out the right side of the bike. Then reverse the process to install

Thats pretty concise Mick, and much what I expected.
I’m tempted to give it a bit of a wrestle, before considering removing subframe.

On the crf you can undo lower subframe bolts and top shock bolt and flip the subframe up, it takes the carb to airbox hose with it. Can you do that on an xr?

You just might be able to do that Jimmy.
I’ll give it a go tomoz.
Never seen that in any manual.
