Bit of a mixed up ride this one.
Started out with me not thinking straight due to a family member back in hospital due to a reoccurring illness,,,
I waited for the guys at the wrong spot for a bit before deciding to head on to the next intersection, then it was 45 mins after the agreed meet time & I figured they had gone without me :S
So I pressed on to the corner of Watagan Creek Rd, pulled up and just as I removed my helmet along they came I had passed while they diverted down to the Basin for a looksee :laugh:The trail I had intended to take out to Millfield was blocked with a locked gate (or maybe I had the wrong trail) so we agreed to head out past Laguna & hook round to Millfield for lunch and a drink then search out the return leg
Did I mention it was a tad warm at Millfield and Theo had his jacket on (with goretex liner & all) :huh:So after lunch & a chat we headed back to Hayes Rd with the intent to give Bowmans Rd a miss (Kat & Theo had some dramas on it recently so we agreed to take another route)
But only a few ks in I decided to shoot wide on a left hander, so Kat went by and then into the next corner, a hard right hander, a car car into my line of site wide on the trail and as I watched Kat squeeze by I hit the deep loose stuff & for some reason grabbed a handful of front (Why you ask, F&*$@d if I know)
Anyway, it was a quick and solid meeting with the good old terra firma before sliding thru the apex & off the edge ploughing up the grass & cowshit YIPPEE!!!
Resulting in rotated handguard, bent front brake lever, bent rear brake lever, and a split around the lug that holds the guard onto the top the radiator (yes leaking coolant) :unsure:ALSO NO GO ON THE START BUTTON but the killswitch is fine and there is power to the fuel pump etc
As we scanned over the bike a nice bloke pulls up & offered assistance (didn`t catch his name) he helped us to clutch start it along the flat a few times THANX MATE whowever you were
So we than decided the rad needed a patchup, so I rode up to the top of the next rise (easy roll start next time)where Theo got out his putty stuff but it only slowed the leak slightly, this resulted in a few seconds of thinking before deciding to head back to Millfield solo to grab some water & nurse it home.
Pissed it in really, kept it running with good air & the temp stayed pretty good (topped up the overflow a couple of times along the way just in case but it only dribbled when I stopped a lights for a minute or two)
Then get a text from Theo that they were lost & Kat was nearly asleep on the bike  :pinch:
An hour later I rang again & they had backtracked to Kat`s favourite place Wollombi Pub for a cool drink before the run south,,,,Sorry for the mixed up day guys. The bike cleaned up alright and clutch started for a run round the block no probs, I will fault find the wiring prob thru the week (think I have pinched a wire from the button somewhere !!!
Kat has the CSI pics from the crash investigation scene

September 18, 2011 at 10:14 am #209084So after huge adventure ride on Saturday and only 4 hrs sleep (self inflicted) I’m ready to hit more dirt today with Theo and Eagle up at the Watagan’s.
Theo turned up at my place after negotiating the roadblocks thanks to the Marathon. So up to Ourimbah up Red Hill, Yarramalong and got to the meeting point about 15mins late (sorry Eagle)… we pushed as hard as we could. So after waiting for a while and did a run to the tar but the Eagle had flown the coup.
So we decided to head off down to the Basin and up the other side. Came back out and rode to the Laguna turn off… The Eagle was nesting at the corner. So after quick hello we tried to head to Millfield.. but as Eagle shared…. We got a locked gate.
So off the Millfield by road and a ‘healthy lunch’ thanks to the owners of the café… I think they see me as the food Nazi… poor Theo’s roast meal was voided of potatoes.
So after lunch we fang it up Hayes Rd. I was hot on the heels of Eagle and noticed he missed the first left hand corner and thought I would put my new skills from yesterday in practice and took him on the inside. I raced up to the next corner and just got around when car was coming in the other direction in the middle of the road. I was able to scrap around her without hitting the ditch but it wasn’t till I looked in my mirror that I saw Eagle flying off the road.
The pictures paint the scene:
The skid marks… (left one is back brake, right one is front brakes)
Eagle showed how he looked
The damage:
Theo patching it with Metal Liquid stuff:
Test ride:
So between Theo, Eagle and a stranger who stopped to help….we got Eagle going. I found that me sitting on the back of Eagles bike helped kick start the bike… poor Theo had to push us both….. Theo – just think of the exercise you got!!!
So after Eagle left we decided to give it a go getting back to Watagan’s Creek Rd via Crumps, Lynches Fire Trail….. we got a bit lost but it was worth it as the firetrails where spectacular So it was 3.30pm and we couldn’t find our way… my eyelids where hanging low so we decided to double back to Millfield…
Photo’s of a track that doesn’t seem to be well used..
We hit the Wollombi Pub for a quick ‘special’ drink and nibble on some trail mix.
We left the pub at 4.30 and tarred it home. Thanks to the ipod and the fast pace we made it back to corner of Mona Vale Rd and Pacific Highway (Gordon) by 6pm to part ways…. I think we flew home.
Had enough energy to wash bike, then me, chew some food and crawl into bed.
Another epic weekend of riding.
Thanks Theo and Eagle for sharing the day with me.
September 18, 2011 at 3:23 pm #209085Now thats an adventure. Looks like you missed the Left hand turn at Albuquerque…. Kat.
Thanks for the report & Pics guys…..September 18, 2011 at 9:08 pm #209086It sure sounds like it was an interesting day :side:
Kept me entertained 😆
September 18, 2011 at 9:39 pm #209087Glad you all find it amusing
Anyway, this arvo I completed the repair to the radiator guard mount.
Had cleaned out the putty from yesterday, sanded the area, thoroughly degreased it etc
Then applied the “Knead It” Auto Epoxy Putty in a nice bead, before tapping the lug back into place before applying some more then smoothing off
After an hour cure I whacked on some paint, near as good as new
Gonna let it set another 24 hours before a test run to double & triple check for any leak. I reckon it should be apples, it was a rather small leak anyway & the lug popped back in rather firmly with a light tap.
Will be watching it very closely for a few weeks just in caseSeptember 18, 2011 at 10:14 pm #209088Wow Eagle… you don’t waste time… straight into patching things up. Nice photo’s… Hope it all works…

September 18, 2011 at 10:35 pm #209089:laugh: Thanx for the tuition Boony,
It was one of those stupid ohh F%#* moments really,,,
Still shaking head after running hot & wide into first corner after lunch, then seeing offending vehicle through the trees coming at Kat in the middle of the track , watching, watching, still watching as Kat squeezed by but not watching what or where I was going :dry:Doh!!! Too Late
There was also a ratehr deep hole/drain just another metre oast where I stopped which I had no intention of ploughing into head first (would have looked like Mick on the Hill End ride in his famous ditch shot) :silly:September 19, 2011 at 9:39 pm #209090ALL SORTED
Pulled the switchblock totally apart, good cleanout with Contact Cleaner , bit of inspection and presto she fired into life
Back together with a good hit of Electrical Silicone and she is perfect,,, Also consumed a couple of cold beers in the processTest ride to work tomorrow to check the radiator repair
September 20, 2011 at 12:33 am #209225dont know about the mount. but I had some putty holding what was left of the top return tube on a WR450 for over a year. as long as you clean the surface properly and use plenty of putty.
And
Make sure you carry more for further problems as it will be weaker than the original.September 20, 2011 at 1:23 am #209091Yeah mate,
I bought the 100 gm tube which is a fair whack of putty and plan to keep half of it in my bumbag from now on
You know, I had thought of getting some for abut a year now & never needed it till Sunday  :pinch: -
