Just finished cleaning my new toy
A little more time consuming than the 525 as there are more folds and overlaps (much like mysef. ) in the plastics
Had a great ride yesterday with Tim and young Damo
Things that need to be done are:-
Bar raisers as I am just a little too uncomfortable with the standing position
Maybe a couple of teeth smaller back sprocket as I seem to be changing gear alot more than the 525
The rear tyre must go it doesn’t hook up all that well
Might look into a mapping switch??? She doesn’t have that big hit off the bottom that I loved with the 525. I understand that they are trying to get tractable power but if I wanted that I would of bought a tractor. Has anybody else gone for a mapping switch???
Other than that she rode sweet. Some stalling issues that is probably rider eror.
But overall I’m am very happy with my new 500
Cheers

October 1, 2011 at 5:04 pm #209959Nice Murph. :woohoo: :woohoo:
It’s been a long time coming mate.
I think you can do the map switch mod without the $100 switch. I’m sure it’s just a wire mod. You would never use the softer map anyway.
We want action shots too. Shiny bike in the backyard pics are just showing off.
October 1, 2011 at 6:19 pm #209961Murph , to my knowledge the map switch gives you access to the rain setting or softer. I didnt notice any difference when i use it. i also broke the button somehow. save your money or do the mod the cheap way without the ktm map switch.
congrats on your new Katie.
October 1, 2011 at 7:03 pm #209962Sounds good, only question I have is…….. What sort of bike have you bought?
October 1, 2011 at 7:43 pm #209951I believe it’s a KTM500.
Congratulations Murph, a well deserved upgrade. Will take a few rides for you to get cozy. Try a tooth higher on the front to see if the gearing change actually works for you? As others have said try playing with the wire before you buy a switch. I have a GasGas one on mine and I use it when it’s muddy wet and I’m rooted (about hr 6 of 7 on your rides).
Have fun eh!October 1, 2011 at 9:40 pm #209963Thanks for the ideas about the mapping switch, fella’s.
I will have to do some investigating
Axel, changing the front sprocket would be heaps easier, hope there is enough chain
That would be roughly the same as 3 and a bit teeth on the back wouldn’t it?
Shall try a 14 front on Tuesday
My 525 ran great with 14-50
This bike has 13-50
The box ratios are slitghly different between models, only the first few gears and there is not much in it
Cheers all
MurphOctober 1, 2011 at 11:08 pm #209972Very nice Murph!!!
If the map switch operates the same as the 350, it is definitely worth having. The 2 position switch can be set to aggressive/standard or wet/standard. A switch under the seat toggles between the two.
I’ve only ever had mine set to aggressive/standard and there is a norticable difference between the two. Set to aggressive the engine seems to rev longer and harder.
I think there may be an aftermarket 3 position switch.
October 1, 2011 at 11:09 pm #209973Congrats Murph it looks sweet.
When’s it doing it’s first Murphsberg??
I reckon I’d be updating that bash plate :woohoo: :woohoo:

October 2, 2011 at 12:10 am #209974i now this bike is a different model but i found 14 52 good gearing on my 530 suited to murpghsberg riding 14 50 was suited to dubbo riding i went 14 52 spot on bit slow on the road but.nice bike murph bet it handles good there slim hay
October 2, 2011 at 12:29 am #2099523 or 4 tooth to 1 at the front, spot on. A 14 front will be a quick fix. Chain should fit.
October 2, 2011 at 9:54 am #209953Thats awesome Murph
Please tell us your going to be nice to it for awhile before you throw it into a murphsberg.
I had the thought of hooking my mapping wire up to my blinker switch, it’s a switch that is already there and not in use
Congrats matePTW
October 2, 2011 at 10:26 am #209991nice bike murph, be about the only bike that would make turn back to a 4stroke, so when are you coming to stroud !!!
October 2, 2011 at 12:33 pm #209993Once I have a new rear tyre, bar raisers and the gearing sorted I will be straight into another Murphsberg. So by next weekend all should be sweet.
Had a bit of a read of the owners manual and it says nothing about the ignition mapping
The six day version has a switch under the seat that can be set. I’ll just wait intil tomorrow when can talk to the KTM shop dudes.
Hey husky
Unfortunately I doubt if I’ll be up your way before the Nundle bash but we’ll see what happens
Cheers
