Firstly as a mate thats been a victim of Mick putting me in his local rag as Boof head of the week I couldn’t let this pass. I am also not the only Old Bull he has done in so enjoy this read
.
It seems the ever clever mechanic by trade / news man Mick needed to fix a few items for the up and coming rego on his under maintained Nissan Patrol. It was during the pre checks he found the driving lights weren’t working. No problem remembering Mick is a qualified mechanic. Armed with his trusty test lamp he soon works out there is no power coming from the relay  Well it’s the relay he says and heads down to the local car parts place, buys a relay (no doubt bitches about the price  ) and returns home. Fits the relay and presto No lights stillSo he checks the wiring and after extensive checks decides both globes are blown after all he is a qualified mechanic and a qualified mechanic would know and have tested thenglobes surely (maybe not
) So off he trots and purchases two globes (again he would have bitched about the cost  ) he returns home and fits them and WOW look.
Insert drum roll :woohoo:
No, no lights still
  What the devil could it be, given that our trusty qualified mechanic still hasn’t found the problem it must be a real hard one to fix  So after some more checks a black wire from the relay was located and traced to a switch in the cabin. Yes a switch, does anyone know what the switch turns on? Yes it switches on the driving lights in Mick’s car, the car he has had for 11years and covered 120,000kms in a switch he forgot was there that works the lights when high beam is on   so a relay or globes weren’t required really the switch just needed be switched on.
Maybe many hands don’t make light work, it is in fact just a switch

what a sweet way to get a bigger relay and some kick arse high watt bulbs fitted to the bike hauler and still stay in the brides good books, you are a ledgend mate.
the switch thingy was odviously to keep the prying eyes thinking that you had no idea. bloody brilliant mate. That took some real thinking,, dam i wish I was as smart as you!!!!!!!!

November 8, 2011 at 11:37 pm #211480What a classic story. Reminds me of the ad with the guy and the commodore and the earings in the ash tray
November 8, 2011 at 11:41 pm #211481I don’t know why he bothered. At his age you can’t drive after dark anyway

A Cracker that isNovember 9, 2011 at 12:42 pm #211486Hhahahhahah Good one TB, last time I tell you anything!! It is all good though, I am just happy that the lights are working now! Didn’t I feel like a goose when I pressed the button on the dash and the shed lit up!!
I do take offence to the under maintained line though. It gets serviced every 5000km which isn’t always every year as the Nissan doesn’t get driven all that much, hence I clean forgot that the switch was on the dash, as I had it in my head that the Driving lights were hard wired straight to the high beam.
Yes, I am a qualified mechanic, not an auto electrician, although fitting a KTM530 blinker inside the rusted out blinker on the Nissan’s bull bar is a work of art!
