Well, being a tad busy this weekend, I couldn`t squeeze a full day ride in
But Deano was keen to take the 690 out for a dirt squirt for the first time, so I made a few hrs free after lunch today

The plan was to hang a left up on the Sugarloaf Range Rd and fang out to Freemans then up to the Gap & back via some different trails,,,,
Sort of worked out, kinda cause I got a tad confused on some corners and there were some hills we didn`t really want to tackle in the heat (Deano had his full jacket on too :S    )
We made it out to the Gap fpr a cool drink & just missed a group of about 20 riders apparently (probably Murph, Smurph & Co on the Last Man Standing ride maybe) ?????

We then had some backtracking on trails that went nowhere but straight up or weaving into tight, tight singles ,, We did conquer a steep mother that went up with a couple of steep sections that were rutted feet out all the way up (but it topped out on a trail we had already been on)

Only off for me for the day was embarrassingly in a knee deep slushpit along the side of the road near the Paintball area  , don`t ask how it happened  I just stalled in second and there was no bottom for my boot, just almost to the knee goop    Wish Deano had a camera

Think we saw an Old Bull on a Beemer returning from an ADV trip maybe on the Range Rd, I stopped but he kept going over the ridge    MickP. was it you ??????

Anyway, it was a good afternoon, Deano got to have a fang on the new steed, got to play with the clickers a bit etc and found that the 690 will climb almost anything you point it at :woohoo:

Covered 101k for the 3.5 hr afternoon trip ;)

Good to see you had some fun ;)

I did come across Murph and the Last Man Standing crew, he was lying on the ground at the top of a single we were about to go down looking rather hot  maybe I should re-phrase that  he was looking rather tired

I’m sure he’ll fill us all in with details

It surely was a great day in the Watties :woohoo:

    Adam.

Must have been hectic if Murph was having a lie down  :P
Yeah, I`m glad it didn`t get as hot as the weatherman predicted ;)

    Cheers

    Hey Eags
    Wasn’t us at the Gap.
Adam, your right. I was starting to feel a bit knocked around when you saw us.
As embarassing as it is I must confess I had a DNF beside my name at the end of the day.
Having riden most of the singles and gnarly hills before I have no excuse for me not finishing the ride. ;) I probably fell victom to dehydration as I had some of the worst leg cramps I have ever had, bad enough to pull the pin at the last track. This was a big call knowing the amount of heckling I would have to endure. (“Murph does not finish Last Man Standing”   )
On a positive note, Tim made it through the entire ride.
It was a good event and they were a great bunch to ride with.
    Cheers
    Murph

Some rare footage of Murph off his bike right here (you will note young Smurph sitting at the hilltop too resting while the Old Man struggles up)

Good onya anyway boys, the temp was up a tad yesterday let alone riding those trails as well  :pinch:
