690R Radiator Thermo Fan Mod – OLD Bull Trailriders

After my little bingle a while ago where I damaged the radiator slightly :whistle: I have decided to have it Silver Soldered to complete the repair (Quik Metal has done its job well so far)
I removed the radiator this arvo and remembered a mod that MickP told me about when I first bought the bike (one of a few little mods actually)

The cowling on the Thermo is so tight to the back of the rad, it rubs and could rub through over time with the vibrations etc etc

So, off came the fan assembly, you can see the wear mark from 13,000k

Now mark the back of the cowling about 5mm with a white paint pen and carefullt grind or sand the plastic back till the mark is gone

Presto, a nice clearance gap between the two without affecting the flow too much

Needs to be pretty close Eags to allow suction mate. If there is to much gap the fan will pull air through the gap not the radiator. A strip of soft rubber or foam will give it a perfect seal make the fan more efficient and not wear the radiator

Absolutely TB! It is very important as the air will take the path of least resistance.

I have a couple of ideas on the rubber/foam seal actually :whistle:
Need to check my stock tomorrow :laugh:

Whatever I use, it will be cheaper to replace than a worn out radiator , even if the foam or rubber disintegrate over time (which they will eventually) :dry:

I found that a mouse pad was a perfect thickness when I did mine.

(have you ever seen a menstruating mouse ? :blush:

The radiator repair was a fizzer :pinch: Noone can get the repair done well enough, they say KTM have some silly alloy that nothing sticks too ????? :dry: :blink:
They say they have had mixed results in the past and have even had KTM Reps in to discuss options etc etc

Anyway, I decided to bring it home today & do the repair myself, but this time with some Devcon Aluminium Epoxy !!
Was after that in the first place, but settled for a lesser product :silly:

I also settled on the mouse pad foam between the thermo fan & the rad body. The pinchwels seal I have was a tad too thick I thought ,,,,
