Hi All, I have recently purchase the van in the pic, ford transit ultra long wheelbase, 117000kms, 2.4 diesel, currently has 12 seats in but plan to
rip out all but 6 and convert the back to a bike carrier / campervan, if anyone has any ideas as to what to do let me know.Cheers

November 18, 2011 at 1:42 pm #211978You could put a 3 inch exhaust with a dump pipe. Cut an inch off the springs out a unit sticker on the rear window and some 19’s. That would be different. my friend has one of those vans but without the windows. He put alloy checker plate on the inside to stop the dints from crap falling over from the inside. He also has a bed that folds down from the wall. I think those windows would stop most of that though. Gee I was a great help
November 18, 2011 at 5:41 pm #211979Good looking transporter there Chris
Great for taking the bikes & gear away for the weekend etcHow about a couple of simple stretcher beds or something for when the bikes are out for the night . There are some great roll out/fold out awnings about these days from around the $300 – 700 mark, good for some quick shelter on a hot day or somewhere to sleep under etc
Or you could go the full Winnebago type fitout with all the BLING BLING

It will be fully decked beags I have already sourced a lot of the materials and bling bits, this is where your boat building days may come in handy
The biggest thing I will have difficulty with is the electrics, I want to wire it for 240v to plugin if we stay somewhere that has mains power (or hook to generator) but also maybe 2 extra batteries with an inverter and solar panels are not out of the question!
Not sure what to do with the windows yet, probably firstly I will tint them with 0% tint but later may get the panels fitted and take the windows out.
Aaron that sounds like a good idea, fully pimped ride I’m looking for some wheels on EBAY but gotta check the exact sizes..
Cheers

oh yeah the shade thing has already been ordered, one of those that mounts to the roof and you just pull it out and stick a couple poles in it..
November 19, 2011 at 2:12 pm #211980Nice van Chris, this site has some good stuff http://www.ozvan.com.au/
Dual batteries are the go and wire everything to run off the auxiliary. A c-tec charger wired to charge off 240 when your in a van park would do and solar is just as easy. Would be a fun project. Steve
November 19, 2011 at 2:17 pm #211981Yep, +1 for the Dual Battery setup and an inverter mate. Easy as to setup and then you have the best of both worlds and no real need for powered sites etc
Solar is good but only really necessary if you plan to stay in one spot for more than a couple of days. You can simply run the engine for a bit to run the batteries up anyway & all is good again fopr a whileGood Luck with the project , sounds like a bit of fun

Take ya time Chris, then it can be a real asset when you get sick of it & piss it off for something else 😆 😆 😆March 13, 2012 at 6:23 pm #211982Gday Chris,
Only found this today, and was wondering how the van fitout is coming along?
I would recommend Marine carpet on the floor,as it dries out quick and also stops things rattling in the back.
I do a fir bit of camping, and as the boys have suggested a Dual Battery set up with a Isolator is the go. I run an Engel Fridge which is 12v and 240v and they use approx 3.5 amps.
I would also put a 12v power outlet outside that will be under your awning,so you can run lights outside also while you are set up.Another idea is to run LED lighting throughout from your 12v supply as they are very light on power, can run off your auxillary battery if needed.
I used to drive a van for work and i found they have a bad blind spot on passenger side, rounded mirror will sort it out.
Cheers Marty
May 20, 2012 at 1:58 pm #218076Coming along well so far:
Tinted all windows, 5%,
Dual Battery with Isolator and deep cycle battery,
15″ DVD Roof Mount Player
Carpeted entire Back,
Redone centre section of roof with Ply and covered
Plyed and covered all old vinyl panels
New Pioneer stereo with new speakers and Bluetooth,
Some Graphics on the outside by master signwriter reynolds.
Removed unneeded seats, still have enough to carry 7 people
Storage box in back that houses the electrics,
1500wt Inverter to run 250v stuff
Towbar and wiring fitted.
Lots of 12v outlets, kids need to charge their I-Gadgets.
Welded up a side step this weekend just need to find someone to bend the checkerplate nicelyI’ve done 99% myself, all accessories are wired to the 2nd deep cycle battery, I have wired in a switch just in case main battery
goes flat can press this and use 2nd battery to start.Still to do
Chasing a nudge bar for front if anybody knows where to get cheap
Add 2nd stero to back, off dual battery (probably use the old one or a cheapy new one)
Speakers for DVD

The white cupboard is not part of it, just in the way.
May 20, 2012 at 6:44 pm #211983Noice shagin wagin Chris :cheer:
If this van is rockin, don’t bother knockin :cheer:
Bol :woohoo:May 20, 2012 at 10:42 pm #222140Looking good Chris, try MAX Manufactured Alloy Extras for your nudge bar, i think they are at Blacktown.
A set of driving lights on the Nudgebar is also a good idea.
When the awning goes on the side, i used to run some shadecloth on the ground, roughly the same size as awning,it works well as dirt falls through it but doesnt come up.
Looking at the height that you have inside,i would make up like a mezzanine shelf to store some light gear things up high.
Good luck with the fitout mate.
Marty
