I have seen a thread showing filter skin retention on OB here somewhere.
Question is – anybody know where you can buy filter skins for the Tenere? Thanks
AngusDecember 6, 2011 at 8:18 pm #212768I use pool filter skins from Coles , 5 for $6 and they work perfectly.
December 6, 2011 at 8:24 pm #212775Here’s the post on an easy mod for a filter skin
Filter skin mod
Remove existing filter cover bolts and disregard.
Remove standard filter cover.
Cut 4 pieces of threaded rod about 35-40mm long.
Loctite studs into airbox in place of cover bolts.
Fit DNA filter cover over the studs and secure with nuts.

Buy a pool filter sock ( $6 for 5 from Coles).
Oil filter sock
Take standard filter cover

Fit filter sock over filter cover

Install over studs and make small cut in filter sock to allow it over the studs

Secure in place with nyloc nuts

Now it’s easy to replace the filter sock daily on a dusty ride without disturbing your foam filter.
December 6, 2011 at 10:56 pm #212769Thanx for the reminder Jacko

I have been meaning to get some pool filter skins for the Kato,,,
Apparently they stretch over the top of the 690 airbox real well and get clamped between the box opening and the snorkel type lid

MickP told me ages ago & I keep forgetting (haven`t done any mega dusty rides lately either, and having three filters is handy)Cheers
December 7, 2011 at 1:36 pm #212778Thanks lads.
At $6 for 5 of them at Coles, I think I may have found a cheap disposable filter system.
It is a throw away society after all……December 7, 2011 at 5:27 pm #212770I plan on doing Nicks filter set up this weekend. Looks like the perfect setup.
December 7, 2011 at 6:36 pm #212771yeah its a great idea, works real good. How ever did you think of it Nick

Should I have called it the OB filter skin mod?December 8, 2011 at 12:59 am #212894Desert Matt wrote:Now now, we all know TB is the MAN.
Should I have called it the OB filter skin mod?No seriously Matt credit where credit is due it is Nick’s mod he bought the gear and made it. He made me a set ( but we lost them somewhere) it is a private joke with Nick really that I use since he took my jersey  He has shared it on ADV rider as well and its been well received as it should cause it works. Give a go Matt
Hey how is the Tenere going?

December 8, 2011 at 7:08 am #212895Credit where credit IS due , TB and I spent a lot of time discussing how we could fit a skin to the Ten and change it without disturbing the foam filter. I tried the skin over the standard Ten filter cover , TB suggested securing it with a special stud , I used threaded rod and tried it . It does work but the seed for this mod was sown by TB , I just made it and got it working first

To do a 3000km+ dusty ride and change 3 skins simply and the foam filter to remain clean has to be a good thing

It doesn’t matter where it came from. It’s just a great mod.
TB, the 10 is going great. Haven’t seen it for 3 weeks due to work and a holiday to surfers for the rugby 7s. Pick it up from its 1000 km service today. It has been on a few rides through the mid north farming land here, but the best was hitting the twistys in the Adelaide hills.
I have to do this filter mod, I bought a B&B rack and reshaped seat from Ron Grant on ADV. I’ll be sending the suspension to Teknik in January, and fitting some knobs when that comes back for some more dirt exploration.
