I took my 08 YZ 450 out for a ride with Buzz and a few youngns on a private farm. It had been 6 months since I had ridden the thing and I have been spending most of my time on a 250x of late. The fist thing I noticed was the power any gear you want to wheelie bring it on :cheer: man that thing has some grunt and the lack of weight was an added bonus.. So there were a couple of positives straight up for the big bore. Then came the cough stop. :( When this thing wants to stall it does it very harshly and almost throws you over the bars. So this is where a 250 comes in all shiny and unblemished. The little piston just seems to want to keep going. When I first got it I thought a recluse or similar would be great but for me in that way it is un warranted. If it was a 450 wr, crf klx etc it might be another story. Anyway it just put another nail in the coffin of the 450 mx bike for organized trail rides idea. Yeah the engine on the 250 might be spun to within an inch of its life most of the time but at the moment it is keeping the smile on my dial so if I have to fork out for engine parts so be it! I used only ride 400 + sized bikes so I can see why people do it. I love to throw a leg over my mates XR650 what a hoot. Why do they have a gear box ??? surely they could throw out all the cogs up to fifth . It would save on some weight and I’m sure she would pull it. :cheer: How kind on you are the later big bores. ???

As you know Aaron after riding your Crf 250 in less than a month I bought one :woohoo:

I rode a Husky 449 and a Wrf450 the same day so I had a good comparison , the 449 was way to snappy of the bottom for me and I found I was hardly using any throttle at all to ride with the group through the singles, fire roads however were a heap of fun :)

The Wrf 450 was very well set up fo me and I felt comfortable instantly on the bike but I still noticed the mass of power that I really don’t think I’d use in the tight singletrack riding I enjoy. Spud who owns the 450 however is a very quick rider on the wrf and had the 250 before so it would be great to here his view ;)

I will have the Crf home on Friday and I havent been this exited about a new bike …… Ever !!!! I still have that hour on Aarons bike going round my head on perpetual loop !!!!

Only time will tell if the 250 is still producing the smiles in 12 months time :)

Nick did the 450s have standard pipes?
They make a huge difference to the snappiness.
After 2 years with loud pipes (one you could fit your fist in)i have recently switched back to the stock pipe(originally i pulled it off the day i got it).
A guy i know told me he only used his loud one for fun and when he raced he used the standard because it is smoother more controlled power.
I tried it and am totally converted (even with the spark arrester and a hole as small as your thumb )
The bottom end is much tamer.
I find hill climbs are much easier ,when workiing the clutch the gap between wheel spin and wheelstand is measurably larger,it stalls less, starts better and getting sideways feels alot more controllable.
It sounds slower and probably is in a straight line but over all i think its worth the trade off (so do my neighbours)
Youll never covince me that 5 kgs is worth 200cc (maybe 20kgs ie a two stroke is worth it)
I know people say only the best riders ever use all the power, but i feel like im using it everytime i hit a straight or powerslide out of a corner, never do i feel like its to much power.
    My two cents. Cheers Ev

Good point E V. I put my old 426 back to stock to take the sting out off it. Funny that exhaust is usually modified on most big bikes when they haven’t even set the ride height.

Yours needs a pipe Nick, when I rode it today after picking it up, it was struggling to pull the limiter in 3rd when cold   had to hold it for ages to get it on the limiter ;) Really thought it would rev harder cold to tell the truth, everyone at Sutto’s rode it when I left it there for Moose to pick up and they thought so as well :pinch:

It had oil in it did want to wreck it, I thought the Rekulse needed adjusting cause unless you had it revving hard and were ready when you KICKED it into gear without the clutch it would stall. Imagine my surprise after we all tried it 5 or 6 times we found out it didn’t have a rekulse fitted  :pinch:
