I received a text on Saturday arvo from Puddles saying that Strucky and him were going to do an early morning run up Plomer Road at Port Macquarie. Seeing as though, I haven’t ridden the XR on the dirt for 2 months or so, I thought it would be a good way to ease myself back into it.
I met the boys at the ferry in Port Macquarie, as we waited for the ferry Toes also turned up on his VStrom. Once off the ferry we headed for Plomer road. For those that don’t know Plomer road, it is a ugly 11km section of an old mining road that runs behind the sand dunes on Port Macquarie’s North beach. No sooner did we come across the start of the rough stuff, I got a rush of blood and took off up the road. The road was, the “best” I have seen it for a while, all the huge puddles that normally litter the road were empty, which basically made the road 11km’s of whoops with the occasional sand drift thrown in to keep you on your toes.
When I got to the end I pulled up to wait for the rest of the boys, I was knackered, arm pump was giving it to me and I was puffing like a steam train.

Once the other guys arrived we headed off toward Delicate Knobby Camp ground to see if we could find Kram, after a lap or two of the camp ground we found him and sat around his camp fire for a yarn, which is a strange thing to do on a hot summers morning when you are fully decked out in riding gear.

From there we headed to Crescent head for Breakfast, we must have gotten Krams juices flowing as he turned up on his NX while we were eating. Toes, Strucky and Puddles decided to head home a different way via Maria river road where as I was keen to run down Plomer road again so we parted ways in Crescent head and Kram and I headed back towards Plomer. Back at his camp site Kram went in and rounded up a wild looking fella on a XR600 and he came for a run down the Plomer road with us. Just as the rough stuff started so did the pissing down rain. WE pressed on down the road with me and old Mate on the 600 having a bit of a go. It absolutey flogged down rain and I could hardly see where I was going but I still had a ball. Anyone that has ridden the road would know how hard this road is to ride and maintain a reasonable speed the entire length of the 11km section, it certainly gives you a work out.!

Man, am I feeling it this morning!! My arms and shoulders are giving it to me today! It was still worth the effort, Plomer road is a great section of track!

That’s the go Mick straight back into it hey :D

Plomer rd was the 1st bit of off roading I did when I moved to Oz and you bought the memories right back !!! I drove up Plomer rd then back along the beach at high tide , it was bloody soft and I got my landcruiser bogged in the worst section of beach. A guy about 80 in the shade pulled me out in a Suzuki jeep muttering something about bloody pommies having no idea :D :D

I bet its good to be back on the bike , even with all the aches ;)

The road is in such a bad state, that the local gun riders around here use it as a training ground for Finke. It is hard to explain what it is like to someone that hasn’t ridden it. It certainly is a fun bit of track on the XR650!

I rode it Solo on the XR 2 weekends before last. I did a big loop from My Olds place on Cresent Head rd through the Bush (Micks Birthday Ride Route) to Krams house and Stex (Kram wasnt Home :( ) into Cresent to top up with fuel down to the Camp grounds which were packed B) couldnt find the Happy Hippy then down Plomer :woohoo: then back up Maria River Rd at top speed ( lost my number plate somewhere along there :( ) then back into the Bush back to the Olds. B) I went out the next day as well and looked for my plate  which I didnt find :( ( $39 and a visit to the police station and RTA ) for a new one.
Had fun pity I didnt see Kram.

The Friday shed party has crossed my mind Mick. I have to get the bike ramp off Moose that came from Scotty so I will have to head into Wauchope anyway.

    .

Now there’s an excuse right there! I will organize that it gets delivered here, then you don’t have to get that shiny ute of yours all dirty on Mooses road.
