Well i started off later than i would have like but i manged to get a 400 klm loop in, there was a pinch of Sugarloaf, a dash of the Wattigans ( with an Eagle sighting ), a chunk of St Albans and Wisemans ferry, Laguna, Finchley and Yengo, Wollombi, Cessnock, then a flat tyre all the way home.
It was a big day and i will have a heap of pics and a better report tomorrow.

    400 klms from 10:00am to 8:00pm

Awesome Pete you da man. I was actually going to buy a postie but I am riding that KTM 530 at the moment, samething really :P

Ok it’s not I miss the superior handling and power of the postie

On topic Pete bring the postie on the Scrapheap ride mate, I am leading it on behalf of OBT, even if it’s doesnt qualify it doesn’t matter everyone bar Eagle is welcome :)

When I get the XLV 750 going and registered I will give you a ring as I need a couple of shake down rides to make sure it’s a reliable goer, will be in touch

With a plan of riding the Piglet to Ayers rock next year i thought i need some seat time, as much seat time as i can get, i have a few trips in mind but have decided to get in some one dayers as well, so a plan was hatched and the Piglet and myself were off and on our way. :cheer:
Ok Ok it was off to a rough start as we left a little later then we had planed and we didnt get to drop in and see Eagle and Deano, i wasnt going to ride with the guys as i would have just held them up but was keen to drop in and say hi, and show off the beast. B)
It was 10:00 as i hit the Sugarloaf lookout to take the first pick,

    Picture303.jpg

Then it was along the ridge and i have to say i am still trying to get used to the postie in an off road setting, i have ridden along the ridge so many times but i have never noticed that it has so many bumps and wash outs, or maybe the 300 just doesnt seem to get as up close and personal with every single wash out, rock, or bit of ant shit.
you can crack along at a decent speed but you need to throw out the anchor when these sneak up on you.

    Picture305.jpg

I started to think about flat tyres with every thump and with a few k’s left on this trip i chose to skip this bit,

    Picture307.jpg

and go this way, down to paintball petes and to some black stuff,

    Picture306.jpg

Once i hit the road i headed for Freemans waterhole then turned left and headed for Mt Faulk rd were i came across this guy waving at me like he knew me, “was that Eagle ?” “na he doesnt have a clear tank on his 690 does he ?” “or does he? ” “will i go back ?” “na what chance have i got of catching those guys ?” :S
This all went around my head untill i finally realized that about ten minute had past and so had Eagle.
I was now heading for the pines, and im not sure if it was the suspension and the bumps or the moments when i hit one of those bumps and i thought the rims would explode, but i had that uncomfortable feeling like i was going to drop last nights dinner, :pinch: no worries tho, the pines camping area has a toilet,
The Piglet was working out the next section of our travels while i………. well you know.

    Picture310.jpg

Its about this time i figured out that when you go riding you need to pack certain things and one thing i failed to pack was the same thing the toilet failed to supply.

With the piglet still having a heap of fuel and me riding the rest of this trip with no sox, we cruised on and out towards the letter A, as i have only really been out this way via singles it was a bit different via the road and the signs are crap, i hit the basin and new where i was straight away.

    Picture312.jpg

i went through the creek and headed left and followed for awhile until a tree was down but was no match for the piglet

    Picture313.jpg

once over i got stuck in and started to get a good pace going and after awhile i started to get this feeling that i might be on the wrong road, luck was on my side as i came across some 4by’s and as he pulled over to let me past i stopped to ask where this road went and was met with a reply of “im not sure mate im just following him” so off to ask the question again i went, again i was met with an “i dont know” but he did get on the radio and ask the guy infront ( who i could not see ) if he knew, and he asked the guy infront of him and he asked the guy infront of him and so on and so on, it turns out that they were so spread out that they had to relay the massage and answers all the way down the line and back, chinese whispers on the two way got me know where and i headed back. :silly:

Yep i found my way out and started venturing south, thats right im going to the Ferry

    Picture316.jpg

This next bit i had never seen before and will do again anytime, The run to St Albans is awesome and with the common to add to its charm it was just a great run.

Its a shame about the numb nuts who need to wreck it.

i had to get a pic of this

So, i had made it to St Albans in style, and a beer was earned as i was half way towards my goal for the day, i had a big smile at this stage and was now thinking that nothing could stop me. :woohoo:

    Hmmmm nothing you say. 👿

    to be continued

Im at St Albans and i had a limited amount of day light left if i wanted to reach my goal, so it was time to light a fire under the Piglet and get moving, I was hooting back through the common and back up the dirt road when i felt the familiar cough and splutter of an engine running out of fuel, not to worry as i still have the full 5tlr tank under the seat as my reserve, at a guess i would say that i could get an easy 300 k’s with this set up.
I went to Laguna to top up and then back to Yengo creek rd cause i wanted to get that loop in and check out the lookout.

On the way to Laguna i had to do the colvert pic

After i had done the Finchley loop i chose to take the backroad to Wollambi, WOW it was a good idea cause it is first class.

As i pulled up to Wollambi pub i wasnt sure if the locals were impressed with me or my trusty steed, that was confirmed when i was brushed and ignored as i walked through to the bar, with a full beer in hand i stood without a care as i was proud as punch with myself and the Piglet, after a ride like that i really couldnt care less what anybody thinks cause i had a bucket load of fun.
i had planed to head back through Laguna and turn left and back over the Wattigans but as i was running out of day light i thought it was safer to go home via Cessnock,
The head light on a postie is not the best and to refer to its brightness in the scale of candle would be an insult to candles but since i was at Kersley and it wasnt far to go i accepted the lights shitness and continued on only to find a bit of a wobble in the rear, bugger me it was a flat and all those bumps, washouts, sticks and stones had no affect, but the nice flat tar had pulled me up, from here it was going to be even longer as i was not going to give up and had to nurse the Piglet.
In the end i made it home with 398 klms behind me ( if it wasnt for a flat i would have rode around the block till it hit the 400 )
all good, all fun, all worth it.
