First, I must say that when the Scala units are working, they are brilliant. But sometimes they just stop, lose signal over short range, won’t re-pair or end up with one user very scratchy for no reason at all… I forgive them for that because MOST of the time, they are brilliant. I do not bother with pairing my GPS to it, nor my phone when on the trail but they are great on the highway stretches or for terrain warnings (like “look out for that roo” or “bloody hell, that corner tightens…”. We even have had far too many instances of “Snake!!!”).

I wear a Shoei Hornet, which has nice recesses near your ears, but I can still feel the speakers and sometimes with ear plugs in, the volume can be a pain.

I followed this ADVRider post http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=628028 and figured I would have a crack. I have never done any fine soldering before, particularly on a printed circuit board bet eh, what the hell.

Turned out to be really easy, cost me $2.95 for the jack from Jaycar and the rest is history. Works a treat. I will get a set of earmold plugs, with volume control as now with standard ear plugs, the sound is deafening…

    Cheers,

    GS
