Hi Guys,
Just thought i would give you some feedback on a camera i bought a while ago.
Its a Canon IXUS220 and is the perfect size for riding,i attach it to my Camelback strap in a hard cover, so it is quick and easy to get to.
The picture quality is brilliant and also takes good video, and so far i cant fault it.
Just on $200 bucks.
Thought this might be helpful if anyone is looking at a Compact Digital Camera.
Cheers Marty

May 10, 2012 at 1:00 am #221397I think Canon rule the market with their compact point and shoots at the moment (I am a Canon shooter so I may be biased). You really can’t go wrong with a Canon compact. The only place Canon fall short is in a water resistant/shock resistant model. They have the Powershot D10 but its specs are very disappointing.
Olympus have ruled this segment of the market for some years now with their Tough series. I have a TG770 which has been great but the kids have given it a good workout in surf, on kayaks, fishing, waterslides and swimming pools so it is now not as waterproof as it once was. Still working but the screen is playing up.
I am off to Fiji in September and along with my trust Canon DSLR I will be the taking the new Nikon AW100 for watersports. I got to use on of these recently and it is a trick piece of kit. When I get it I will get it out the bush and do a review. It has a 16mp CMOS sensor and is shockproof, waterproof to 10m, cold-resistant, has GPS with maps, compass and point of interest. For those into video its also 1080HD. On specs this should make a nice compact bike camera. I can’t say the image quality will make some of the Canon’s but being Nikon I can’t see why it wouldn’t.
They sell for about $350-$400 dollars in Aus but if you prepared to risk oversees without warranty can be had for under $300. Not cheap but certainly reasonable for what you get and around the same as the Olympus Tough range.
It comes in a few colours even orange for you KTM freaks

I will be going for the camo model.
May 10, 2012 at 1:22 am #221449Good post Scotty.
I have always bought Cannon SLR’s and got an Olympus Tough series as a happy snapper, and whilst I have been able to get shots in places I would not have otherwise taken a camera, the picture quality is average at best. If this Nikon turns out to be as good as I’d expect then post it up and I will be first to get one.
Having said that Mal5.1 (can ride) has posted some Olympus tough photos on here which are crackers. My model is a u-tough 6010, his may be a newer one.Cheers

I heard that there is now a TZ30 being released with a 20x optical lens.
It would have to have one of the best optical lens’ out there, the HD video is great and it has a nicer palm presence than the Canon (meaning its easier to hold), just looks a bit clunkier.
Both the Lumix and Canon are great for camping shots as they have variable shutter speeds – great for those starry night piccies.
Why do I have three cameras???
May 10, 2012 at 1:54 am #221454We have a lumix dmc-ts1 and the pics come out great. Waterproof and shock proof. We used it while in hawaii for snorkelling and all it was awesome. But i have a gopro for the riding now so no need for the old camera.
