G’day guys… I’m new to the Old Bulls and would appreciate some advice…
And I’m coming over the Perth for the ride the first weekend in June… I’ve got an XR 650R with two problems… one is that the bars are too low for me. What solutions have you used to raise your bars (new triple clamps that will fit CRF bar risers???)
The other problem is carbie related and I’m looking to replace the carbie. I’ve been researching the Mikuni Pumper Carb 40mm kit and some seem to love it others seem to hate it. Any first hand experience with it please let me know your thoughts. If you have a better suggestion I’m all ears as well.
Thanks in advance for your help guys…
MikeMay 10, 2012 at 3:15 am #221464Hi Mike,
Welcome to OBT mate, your best bet would be to chat with Trailboss(TB), he is the XR650 Guru and will be able to point you in the right direction.
Catch you on the trails sometime.
Cheers Marty

What solutions have you used to raise your bars (new triple clamps that will fit CRF bar risers???)Does it have a damper? Have you considered an under bar damper and a set of high bend bars (can’t remember of the top of me head what bend we use but can get that sorted) I recently used a set of bar raisers that I purchased from Adventure Moto here in Sydney that were bloody awesome, I took some pictures at the time and will be doing a write up about them as they are rippers. You could very successfully use them, they have all sorts of adjustment including backwards and forwards. I will getbthem posted up today if I can

I use at the standard carby it was setup originally by Nick Dole of Tekniks fame when he built my bike for GHR for the 2005 Australian Safari. It runs a HRC engine kit with head work custom exhaust blah blah blah and has seen 59 horses on the dyno so the carby does the job when jetted right. I run a 68s pilot jet (can get you the part number for that) and a 175 main. Air screw is 1 3/4 turns out I think can check. Fuel economy trail riding is ok around 110kms for 10 litres but when racing say at the Condo it has been known to use 1 litre for every 8.4 kms.
Thanks in advance for your help guys…
MikeMay 10, 2012 at 11:51 am #221469May 10, 2012 at 12:17 pm #221472Here is my set up for my bars, no bling factor just a cheap, practical way of raising your bars and making a bit more cockpit space. The bar risers were $60 or near abouts and the Renthal fat bars were about $150. I have crashed and dropped the bike too many times to even think about and they haven’t moved or bent at all.
What is wrong with your carbie do you think? The stock carbs are pretty bullet proof, so it may only be an adjustment issue.

I reckon the Pro Taper Windham/RM MID maybe high enough. Mike you can also see how I routed the throttle cables on Micks setup because they arent long enough the standard route
Bars are like tyres eh  One person loves one person hates. I have had success fitting and recommending the Pro Taper Windham/RM MID bars on both my bikes, Nickj’s Tenere, Crashes CRF, Dejay’s DR to name a few
BTW the damper wasnt recommend for Bling, it was recommended to lift the bars, he lives in WA so sand would be a factor, the damper makes a huge difference ask anyone thats got one. The bling factor is just an extra bonus

May 10, 2012 at 1:27 pm #221474ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It appears that I should have been a little more specific. I had the same bar raisers on my XR600 that I fitted all by myself
and I was so happy with them :woohoo: , I got a set for the 650 as well. I clean forgot that it was TB that fitted them to my 650 and rerouted my cables. Sorry I didn’t mention that in my previous post.
Hope that clears things up.

May 11, 2012 at 10:14 pm #221477I spoke with Muc-off Mike this morning and he has explained that you are his mate, plus one that has been on the birthday ride since very early on in the piece, so your name has been added instead of Mikes mate
