I just checked and Chris and my join dates are 29th of May 4 years ago. It was a night that was much the same as the minutes from our board meeting thread, see it in the Bullpit for a better understanding
We have tried heard, learnt a lot and had a ball most of the time. The life friends made (and lost) have alone made it all worth while. Friendships are a funny funny thing and what they seem like to you, the casual observer, can be so different to what it appears, like Mick and I for example. The places I have been and seen through OBT, cant even be explained here because it seems endless.
Its not never going to be a perfect thing running a web site, you are dealing with a 1000 different sorts of people, without knowing how their day is going, what they are really trying to say, without reading their body lanuage it can be tough. You make choices based upon what you think is the right thing for the site, you and the masses and only rarely does it seem we get it 100% right
Everyone here makes it what it is, I think it is a site that has everything that mixes quite well. OBT is an entity that offers so much but at the end of the day, you will only get out of it, as much as you put in.
Thanks to everyone here for what they bring to the site.Hope you are all still here in 4 years

May the good times keep rollin
Well done
Bol :woohoo:May 28, 2012 at 2:43 pm #222801Domain name was registered on the 28th but their wasn’t originally a forum just a web page about diabetics, Insulin Tankers etc, (forums are for nerds) I recall TB saying, Internet is just for P**N I also remember, who needs nerd sites, and on and on. It was probably after midnight that I Installed the forum software and we registered thus pushing it over to the 29th and onto the last of the rums.
TB was that impatient that nothing was happening the next day, it won’t heppin over night I told him, and so it went on from there.
Lots of trying times and lots of good times over the last 4 years, all in all I wish I had more time to banter, but doing the maintenance and updates that no-one ever sees keeps me busy enough, I get enough enjoyment out of just reading the banter and have met some decent blokes along the way too.
Cheers
Chris.May 28, 2012 at 2:50 pm #222804It should also be said that we couldn’t of grown as much without past and present moderators, I won’t name them all but they know who they are.
Chris.
May 28, 2012 at 2:55 pm #222805bit of a retro feel, but I thought I change the template back to the original one we started with just for nostalgic value, funnily enough with a bit of work I could quite like it.
Cheers
Chris.EDIT: Main template changed back due to sponsor logos not showing in old one, need to keep our sponsors happy!!
May 28, 2012 at 3:05 pm #222807Happy Birthday OBT!!!!!
Its been 2 years for me. I joined just before the 2nd Birthday ride at Sofala and it was my first of many OBT rides….
I most likely would have never seen what I’ve seen, travelled where I’ve travelled, met the various types of people met nor challenged as I have been challenged on an off ride motorcycle…..
Thanks to all involved with keeping this site going and a special thanks to Chris72a as I fully understand what it really takes to operate and maintain a site like this in the background as I work in the industry…
Finally a decent interface!!! Love it Chris!!!!
Krusty!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 28, 2012 at 3:38 pm #222806Who’d thought, that OBT would have made it this far!! When I first stumbled across TB on Thumpertalk, he was squarking about this fantastic site that was up and running in Australia and that I should check it out.
I did check it out, only to discover that it had about 2 or 3 members and had been running for approximately 3 days. That is when I decided, I better give these poor simple bastards a hand to get the place up and running and somehow found myself voted in by TB and Chris as the very first moderator of OBT in no time at all. It was a good 3 months into OBT before I meet TB face to face and even longer before I met Chris.
I remember sitting in front of my computer in the early days, thinking to myself, I wish someone would post something, now sometimes I wish, you all would stop posting for a while, so I can catch up on all the posts!!!
I am pretty sure my missus curses the day I first got involved!! Sometimes I even curse being involved, as you would imagine, being on here pretty well every day for the last 4 years, but I wouldn’t have it any other way, as I have met some great people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, who will remain friends of mine for life.Congratulations to Chris and TB on the success of the site, even though I don’t really think they set out to have it grow like it has. I bet they are as surprised and as proud as I am at OBT’s success.
May 28, 2012 at 3:50 pm #222808:laugh:  Arr Thumper talk eh, haven’t been there for years. So many memories like getting a cash payment from the government to have a challenged person work for us, hence our first moderator was put on full time
Meeting Mick for the first time involved me pulling up at his house at 9am one Monday morning unloading the CRF450 and the XR650. He wheeled them into his shed and I left them there for a week while I went to Brisbane for work. Actaully met him for the first time just then and left 18+K worth of bikes with him! And if I had really known well
What about the first ride I ran a ride, only Crash and Chicken came and we rode together pre web site days. First time I met Moto I picked him and his bike up to go for a ride on the side of the F3 freeway
. First ride with Mick I filled him in in two puddles in the first 5 mins, Rider X was there and he was just shaking his head at Mick and calling him a dickhead and the was the first puddle, should have heard him after he set himself up for the same less than two minutes on   The list is endless
