So with having Monday off and not getting enough of a ride fix at Sunny Corner due to the weather (and me being soft  ), I loaded up the bike again and headed to Anna Bay for a ride on and behind Stockton Beach.
I started out on a single track I had found previously, this track is through grey sand behind the dunes and winds its way back and forth through the bush constantly turning nack on itself as it winds over the hills. The track is pretty heavily wooped out and was really hard work. I stopped after a while to catch my breath as I was puffing like a steam train. Looking back at the video when I got home I had only ridden for 6 minutes when I had to stop, soooo unfit.
I came to an intersection with a wider track soon after and headed off on that one only for it to come to a stop at the foot of a very steep dune that I had no chance of getting up so turned around and headed the other way. That brought me out to the power line trail which I followed until there was another single heading into the bush. This one was a bit wider, firmer and only had the occasional woops so the riding was much easier and more fun. I followed this one until I came to a long section of water with no way around. I cautiously headed into the water but once it got up to the foot pegs the bike stalled. A quick inspection found that all the breathers were still at the bottom of the bike and so all underwater. I pulled the bike onto dry land and grabbed 2 breather hoses and tucked them up at seat level, With that done I restarted the bike and headed back into the water with no more trouble other than the fact that this trail also stopped at a sand dune that I would not have been able to get up and once again headed back out.
Again I was on the power line trail but on the other side of a large sandy hill that I wasn’t keen on trying to conquer. Back into the bush again for some more tracks similar to what I had just been on until the same problem of sand dunes blocking beach access so back out I went.
From there I followed the power lines back to the car including going over the steep sandy hill but from this direction the assent was easy, only the decent was a little of a worry. I refuelled the bike even though I had only done about 25km by this time and headed into Anna Bay and on to the beach through the proper access.
Access to the beach is easy going through here and it was also low tide which made the run down the beach easy also. The rangers were sitting there when I came out onto the beach and so had to contain myself until I had put a couple of km’s between us. I basically just rode straight down the beach almost to the Signa wreck with the odd power slide or dodgy mono before turning around and heading into the track just behind the beach.
This is a good fun track as it winds its way though and over the little coastal dunes. Every now and then I would cut back to the beach for a quick rest then head back in. The ride was going really well with no incidents when I went off track and found one of those soft patches that stop the bike dead. Luckily I wasn’t going too fast as I had slowed as I came to the crest. Because I was standing up I went over the bars and landed on my side with no injury until the back of the bike followed me past the handlebars and landed on me with the foot peg getting me just above the ankle bone. It was painful but nothing was broken so I kicked the bike off me and headed for the relative safety of a known track and eventually back to the car.
All up I rode for about 2 ½ hours with only a couple of short breaks and had a great time, so how was work? :P

    Singles 1, hard work

I just realised that second video is incomplete. There is meant to be a bit more where I ride through the water after re-routing the breathers. It’s a pretty arty finish because with the black still water, the sky and trees are reflected. I will have to upload it again to Utube and repost it. There is also another one that was uploading all day and froze so I am trying again with that one as well.

I was going to post a similar ride this coming weekend but I want to run it at a low tide so anyone not comfy in the dunes can cruise downthe beach to the Signa wreck or something. The low tides for the long weekend don’t suit though, too early and too late.

Thanks for sharing Jeffro. I would love to come down there and get a bit of sand riding in. I might get you keen one weekend, so we can go out and explore your backyard.

Looks like I will have to do some more exploring to make it a long enough ride for travellers. You could always play in the dunes longer if need be too I suppose.

    Hey Jeffro,

Certainly looks like you had a better day than I did in the office… Question re your camera setup; your shadow looks like a normal go pro set up on top of your lid, but the camera seems to move independently of your visible visor… Whats your trick?

    Cheers

A ride is always better than a day at the office.

Your correct in that the gopro is just on a normal mount, the the appearance of it being independant to the helemt comes from Utube. When the video had uploaded utube noted that it was shaky and gave the option to fix it which I accepted and they modify it somehow giving that appearance.

This is the same video (with the extra footage I mentioned earlier) without allowing Utube to remve the shake.

Nice stuff Jeffro. I’d be keen for a blast up the dunes on the 570. I know my way around reasonably well and can do a mix of riding from Lavis Lane right the way up to Anna Bay for lunch and fuel and then back via Tin City and the Cigna wreck.

Let me know when you’re keen for a burn and we;ll sort something out :)

Terrain would be a mix of fast flowing whooped out singles, big dunes, the fast tracks between the dunes and ocean and some up the beach stuff for a breather (or not!).

Good stuff Jeffro, it’s fun riding up at stocko and if you get something together I would be keen, I know some good dunes for everyone to try out 👿 .

If we get a crew that is traveling a good distance, why don’t we do a mountains and ocean weekend, barrington on Saturday and Anna bay on Sunday ?

Well, that certainly is clever… I guess that is why the guys from youtube are sunning it up on their yacht in the Bahamas and I am slogging away in the office hoping my boss doesn’t catch me on OBT…
