New berg 300 is MR smooth and a great bike as well.
ride both and make your choice from that. Also consider dealer support and locality.
Gasgas spares prices are very competitive and you dnt get ripped by MR Leisk.

June 13, 2012 at 11:03 am #224103The new berg looks great but its just a blue ktm? I have a ’12 gg300 and i am really loveing the way it handles and power delivery is great after you get ur jetting how you like it, As you would do with any 2 stroke. You can pick up good run out prices on both brands at the moment.
June 13, 2012 at 12:12 pm #224091I should really stay out if these discussions
I have ridden a few of each. Not ’12 models.
The Assgasses i rode were very precise. 2 strokes in the raw. At the motocrosser end of the scale. Not quite as tunable as the husabooger power wise. The starter motor probably works alot better than ktms efforts.
Theres no doubt one with little knowledge can get a berg running more like a 4 banger or a motocrosser cracker. As for parts the berg has the whole of USA available to choose from. GG not so. Resale should favour the berg as always.
Pick which one looks sexier or is cheapest.June 13, 2012 at 1:55 pm #224106The biggest point to note is that the Gas Gas’ are smaller bikes. They feel smaller and have a lower seat height. If you like riding extreme shit this would be an advantage in my eyes. Also if you are vertically challenged this may be an advantage also.
If you’re a really bug unit you may find it a little cramped. A couple of years ago I wouldn’t have looked at a Gas Gas but these days they look great and are every bit as good as the other 300’s on offer from KTM/Berg.
Berg gets the CC forks, do the new KTM’s? They might do, can’t remember now.
June 13, 2012 at 2:22 pm #224119That’s a good point Moto, forgot about that. I’m over 6 foot and your right, the GGs were noticeably more cramped. The Kato/Berg suites a bigger rider. Personally I’d like them a little bigger again so my legs and back don’t cop so much of a flogging.
June 13, 2012 at 10:09 pm #224120New 12 Model gasgas is about 40 mm taller in the seat. I have a mate who has the 10 model GG Nambotin and he is 6’4 and and fits nicely in it. He may have bar raisers but that is it. Has KTM/Berg fixed the starter motor issue yet ?

You mention about not getting ripped off by Mr Leisk in an earlier post but I am starting to think you are on a Gas Gas commission. If not you are the sort of one eyed rider that MC Chronic likes to compose tracks about.

HA HA no not quite Scotty Im just putting a few facts out there, I actually came across a Berg 300 at a recent state Enduro and was very close to putting the hard earned on it. But I figured a divorce would cost me a fair bit more than what the Berg was worth, so put it on hold for a while.

No the starters are still an afterthought and are still shit. Mine wasn’t all that bad after the bedix was repolaced on it’s second ride. Plenty of others are woeful though.
June 14, 2012 at 9:56 pm #224093You could also look at a new WR 2 stroke husqvarna.
No electric start but ask anyone who owns a 2 stroke ktm with electric leg and most will tell you they fail anyhow.
We have the following available NEW
2011 WR250 (2 stroke) $8,490 ride away
2012 WR300 (2 stroke) $9,690 ride away
includes 12 months NSW rego + 12 months warranty.June 15, 2012 at 1:24 pm #224094Im not fussed with electric start myself especially the crap one on my 300. What really bugs me is giving the e-start a go then it wont start. Have to kick it anyway. May as well kick it in the first place….
I didnt buy mine because it had estart thats for sure. Unfortunately for husky there are not so many open minded riders.June 16, 2012 at 7:50 pm #224200can i get that deal in perth for a 300?
June 16, 2012 at 11:00 pm #224095Maybe, just ring your nearest husky dealer over there and see if they have any.
