I went out for this last year and had a ball. I will be going back again this year.

There is some pretty good prize money for bike racing in these areas now. I came third in the Thargominah 3 hr enduro and got $500 so that paid for my trip. First place was $1,500 for both 250cc and 450cc. Other events like 500m drag and barrel racing were $600 for 1st.

I came second in the wheelstand and 200m drag. Some riders came away from the weekend with nearly $2,000 prize money. Definitly worth the trip.

The cleared strip we did the wheelstand on was 500m long. I went first and went 100m past the end of the strip (600m total). I could have gone further but I was in grass 2 feet high with logs and stumps, and I was also headed straight at a fence so I put it down. Knowone else got even half the distance until the second last guy (a local from Thargo), he went about 5m past me and pulled up just before the fence.
Hopefully next this year they will have a 1km strip so we can have a re-match.

Looks like fun. They need to swap the days around though. I would rather be doing a barrel race with a hangover than a 3 hour enduro with a hangover.

Was looking at the planning. 830km each way. Could still do it with a couple of mates. Looked at the dates and it’s my 10th wedding anniversary that weekend so no go this year. Hopefully next year. Have fun.

    It’s 691km’s from home.

The Hungerford gymkhana is the weekend after so I stay out there for the week with the oldies and chase a few pigs. That make the distance worth while.

Well it’s done and dusted for another year.

The whole family had an awsome and successful time. It started with the Gymkahana on the Saturday. I was feeling quite confident this year as I made it into a few finals last year. That is until Tye Simmonds showed up. I made it into a few finals but Tye cleaned up pretty much everything. Out at these gymkahana events is where it all started for him and he still got it. I did beat him in the wheelstand comp which I was pretty chuffed about.

My son got 2nd age champion (under 6yrs) for getting four 2nds and a third. My 3 yr old also got a 3rd which was pretty awsome considering she was in the under 6yr olds class too

On Sunday was the 3hr enduro with 2 classes to compeate. The 450cc and250cc. Both classes where worth $2,500 for first place.

I had an absolute shocker of a start as it was a dead engine start and my bike didn’t start for 2 minutes!!! So everyone had a 2 min head start on me. This really gave me the sh!ts and made me ride like a lunutic trying to catch up. About half way round the first lap I then hit a big gutter at about 70km/hr which spat me sideways though the air and made me do a massive high-side. The impact gave me whiplash which made my helmet cam fall off (which may as well not have been there as I forgot to turn it on).

After about 5 minutes and a spoonfull of cement, I was on my way again. The crash brought me back to my senses and I rode the rest fo the race within my limits with a sore neck and back, and bent/twisted handlebars.

I still finished in 4th out of 28 in my class (450cc) so I was pretty happy with my comeback. I finished 30 seconds behind third and 4 mins behind second so without my two little hiccups……….well you do the math. Tye lapped me but that was to be expected. He fueled up 8 times and also changed an air filter. I fueled up once. 😮

The next week was spent with my parents on the property they caretake near Hungerford. We caught a few yabbies and did a bit of shooting. It was my wifes first time having a shot and I have now created a Rambo. She even pulled off a couple of head shots while spotlighting. I was impressed.

The next weekend was Hungerford gymkahana. Which Tye also turned up to and once again cleaned up. They also hold a short circut race here which is a bit like speed way in the dust and scrub. My son one the under 8’s in this which gave me a good lump in my throat (he is only 6 and was against 80cc bikes). I won a heat but could only get a 4th in the final (which Tye won of course).

I can’t wait untill next year!!

I also hit a mulga stump which resulted in a close call with my foot. I could feel it scrating against my skin.

That is a good price on the YZ. Doubt that will sit around for long.
