July 22, 2012 at 9:28 pm #226390I really find the hero2 gopro awesome but i have never used or seen the contour to compare. Careful its addictive!
July 22, 2012 at 10:48 pm #226392the otherthing i would like ask is , ok your bought the gopro now what about extras like what mount(chest or helmet) , theres a water proof case?? what do you need and what dont you need ???
July 22, 2012 at 11:03 pm #226396I have the go pro also and love it. There are a heap of mounts for them and you can put them anywhere. I have never used the contour but a mate has one and likes it so far.
If you buy the motor sport pack or and helmet pack (i think there is one), it comes with a few flat and curved stick on mounts. I have a chest strap and a vented helmet strap that I use on the chin piece of my helmet. I like both mounts for their easy of use and protection from branches.

thanks thats the sort of info im after i knew about the chest but not about the chin do you find the footage with the chest good or are always getting the handlebars in the picture
July 22, 2012 at 11:28 pm #226402If you stand up more sit down then the chest mount has an excellent view. You get to see a bit of the bike moving around which I think is good to see.
I started sitting more in the tight technical stuff and the bars are in the middle of the screen. That’s why I now use the strap on the chin piece.

July 23, 2012 at 12:38 am #226409GoPro all the way mate. They have become industry standard among sport film makers for good reason. Get the motorsports edition and you have everything you need to start. It is then a matter of working out which view you enjoy the most. I compiled the most common mount points and put a comparison together that may help you.

Good point Scott, you see them everywhere from the in car cameras for top gear to bear grills and your right, it’s for a good reason.

July 23, 2012 at 12:54 pm #226481I had one of the original GoPro’s but never really used it as I couldn’t be arsed with the video editing. However, since I’ve got a shiny new iMac and I’ll be working from home as of Jan I am revisiting the idea.
My main concern was ripping the thing off. I reckon the top helmet mount seems to be the goods in terms of framing the scene properly but it is also the easiest to rip off. I know the stciky mounts are strong, I still have one on my helmet because it won’t come off, it’s the plastc attachment to the camera I think would let go.
Anyone lost one of had one rip off? The countour’s are a little more of a slimline design but it’s hard to look past the GoPro.
July 23, 2012 at 1:17 pm #226490STM has lost one and this is how he has fixed the chances of loosing it again.

July 23, 2012 at 2:13 pm #226505Go pro sell a tether kit here
That said I use a couple of cable ties to tether mine  I had thought of getting Mick to make me one from his fishing kit
I am going to order a tether kit from ADV Moto actually as it will look better than my cable tie one

July 23, 2012 at 2:58 pm #226506$20 for 5 adhesive mounts and 5 tether straps, cheap at twice the price.
You could even use all 5 at once for extra security
