Hi all, can any one tell me what is the pink wire mode on the crf450x that people talk about?

it is a wire that goes from/ to the CDI unit. it is to do with the ignition mapping.

later bikes have a bar mounted switch to swap from ‘performance’ if you like to slow and steady hill/ mud and the like.

i don’t know what the difference is exactly. some do not find that much of a difference and either choose to set up with one or the other i.e. they break the pink wire circuit via either cutting it/ or i think from memory it is grounded and they simply un ground it and tape up the end an tie it to the frame. or it is un grounded and they ground it to the frame.

others choose to put a switch in it. some models have it available as an accessory .

hopefully the CRF guys will help out on the finer points that are not clear in the above. and correct what i’ve not got right. ;) as usual B)

The “pink” mode is when you go soft and buy a CRF250X

You’ll get alot more dust and shit in your airbox for no real gain. If anything you will lean the bike out and need to re-jet to suit as it will backfire on decel.

And and and unless you are about one of 5 blokes in Australia than can ride a CRF450 for what its worth and what it brings to the table you will have worked out by now that it has more than enough poke for you, me and Moto put together

Do you see the irony though  You’ve got a modded airbox on your 650 and I modded the air box on my 450

At least we can say we’re speaking from experience! I was gonna mention about the power thing but we all like power if we can use it or not. The airbox mod is much more trouble than it’s worth though.

Channeling your efforts into sorting your suspension would be money and effort well spent.

As proven last weekend when Nick did my brothers CRF250 suspension, quicker laps, and almost the same all the way through instead of falling away and the end. Oh and no arm pump for the first time since he got it.

As far as the airbox goes, well mine is modified for clean air as the 650 picks its air up out from under the rear guard and the wheel creates dirty air there. I can do 3 rides and the filter is ok with the side air intake, one ride leading (no one else’s dust) with the standard setup and the filter is dirty. You block the standard intake tract of completely and it gets clean air from the side through the modified side cover (no ram effect) Ask Crash how good it is regarding filter life and not dusting your engine. Mick hasn’t done it his yet and has seen the other results  It’s a simple mod and I was put onto it by GHR when I asked the benefit of the cold air intake and he said no it’s a clean air intake :pinch:
Funny thing I was going to mention it in my last post before but thought it would start a whole new debate

    C’mon you two
Have your abilities finally caught up with your ambitions or something
let the man have a go and encourage him to do so .

never deter those who have ambitions to strive and suceed in what ever floats their boat

everyone thought noah was a knob as well as einstein , in the end everyone else was the knob

The pink wire sounds simmilar to the wire that you cut on older wr’s , I think on them it advances your ignition slightly to YZ??timing and vice versa

Is this a tech help thread ………….I don’t know cause only half of anything loads up
if it is i’ll be in the shit then for talking so much shit i spose

Ps try thr mod where you tape your hands to the handlebars so you can’t bail out ………That will scare the shit out of you

I haven’t got the balls for that mod yet……..and in my case the mod where you tape your feet to the pegs

I found this site ages ago when Sam had his CRF

    http://www.rickramsey.net/CRF250X.htm

I know it’s for 250’s but since there’s so many here now it may be of some use.

    Possibly valid for the 450.

Mr Ramsey needs to get a life

P.S. The pink wire info is towards the bottom of his page ;)

    Adam.

Cheers boys it all good info and ill doubt i will cut open a perfectly good air box since i’m going to do a cape ride and river crossings i might need the water out and not inside motor …!!!! But the pink wire is an easy try with out to much drama to return it to stock..
