Not sure if anyone has done a comparison yet but 2 weeks ago i came to the conclusion that the Vee rubber UHD tubes are not for me, I ride relatively rocky stuff most of the year and after stuffing 2 of these within only hours of each other i stopped buying them. I rolled in to the local and they finally got their back order of Michellins turn up, Upon openning straight away the quality and the thickness of the tube is noticable. The v rubber says the same specs but its clearly not i have found. I will let you lot know if the Michellin holds up to it better than the Vee. Sorry if you run vee rubber and i am talking them down but its just my personal experience.

I am also interested to hear people ideas of the mousse tubes, If you could enter your pros and cons it would be appreciated.

    Cheers Nato.

If you ride rocks nothing could be better than mousse tubes. Once YOU learn to change them (most bike shops wont or can’t) you wont go back. Yes they are expensive at first. They can be cut and added to, yes they need to be lubed. Beware it seems to me the Lindswood ones are cheaper for a reason, the ones I have fitted for a few people dont seem to have lasted as well as Michelin one. In fairness with one it hadnt been out to be relubed, sometimes you have to do that. There are also lubes and lubes it seems from experience the genuine Michelin one is thicker seems to last for peeps that dont want to take the chance over a longer period of time, if you are changing tyres a bit more often a cheaper lube will do. I have been using them for over 5 years now. I that time I have used 3 fronts and 2 rears (I rarely run the rear because I have only had one rear flat in 6 years and on my bikes that would be over 90,000kms  ) Until recently I always used the genuine lube to achieve those miles
Pirelli also make mousse tubes I havent tried one so I cant comment

I have banged on about Michelin ultra heavy duty tubes forever here one I had in the rear of 2 bikes didnt over 25000ks before I got a railway spike thru it. Bridgestone also do a ultra tube I reckon is as good

I will find you some info about Mousses, Mal 5.1 uses them and is a gun at changing them (best I know ;) ) Crash has used them also for ages

I have had a set of UHD tubes in my bike for over a year now and I have done heaps of riding without any dramas, they are Bridgestone. Lately I have been thinking about mousse but will continue with the tubes for now.

I think a properly set up bike and suspension helps a lot too.

The Kenda Tuff tubes are very thick, but expensive at $50 a pop when you can now get a mousse for $120

As a bit of extra insurance – try using tyre slime – green stuff you get from repco or super cheap 1 litre does 4 tubes ;)

I’m a fan of Michilen UHD, never had a flat on one. Last time I fitted tyres to the RMX I could only get a Vee rubber for the front so at the moment I have Michilen in rear and Vee rubber in front.

You can feel the difference when comparing them side by side, the Michy is thicker. That being said I run the front on the RMX at 10psi everywhere and not had a flat (touch would) even after a couple ride in the Sunny Corner loam.

I tried this stuff once. All it did is when I got a flat it filled the inside of my tyre with green goopy shit.

My only experience on a mousse was on Nickj’s bike as he wanted my thoughts on his fork. He thought it felt harsh on square edge hits. He was right, it spiked badly but it was not his fork but his mousse. He pulled it out and it had totally deteriorated inside the tyre.

It good for up to 6mm Holes like pinch flats or a nail etc Not good for tears or worse. Havnt had a puncture since I started using it. (touch wood)

Scott I can put you at ease and assure you the problem with Nick’s bike / mousse is related to his mousse which had in fact failed and was one of the cheap mousses with the thin style cheaper lubes I was talking about. I have been running the michelin mousses for over 5years their lube and can tell you they protect your rims and don’t fail apart in the time his littswood mousse has. Remember I have only used 3 in 5 years and in tha time did heaps more miles than Nick, DeJays littswoods has also failed in the same sort of time / use frame. I havent seen Nick’s but from chatting with Nick about his it’s the same lube related failure causing the mousse to come tear and ball up.
I fitted a littswood mousse to Steve’s 530, it has done about 2 thousand kms including the two navigation ride which was nearly 1000 kms of ADV riding. Only difference is I used Michelin lube it seems. I recently changed the tyre for this weekends ride as I will be using it and the mousse is fine. The price of the Michelins has now dropped so I wouldn’t use the cheaper ones now

I was looking to buy some of this stuff for the kids bikes and had a seller at the Orange field day last year tell me the slime isn’t really any good in tubes because the slime can’t react with the air properly because the tyre is against it and the slime can’t seal because the tyre rubs the sealant out of the hole. Tubeless he said it’s designed for where it can react with the air? I didn’t buy it because I was confussed. I have been told the same with finni leak which I have never work in a tube tyre but have on my road bike tubeless tyre

Hey I just reread what you wrote, if you haven’t had a flat how do you know it’s worked? Or have you found where it has sealed?

    Thanks

Blu goo is the ducks guts .. its made of paper machete and some non drying liquid, will seal a nail hole, even blocks the valve stem when you take the valve out if its on the bottom.

Yeah won’t argue with that mate as I haven’t run it because I haven’t heard anyone but you happy with it and that guy at the field day. I will try it in the kids bikes because cant get decent tubes for then
