Day 2 here we go again. More. Great fun out on our bikes, seems like the boys enjoyed yesterdays ride despite the most dust I have ever seen up here.

    Thanks for the report Aaron
I’m at work wishing I was there with ya’s
The only down side of this weekend would be the dust, but that is out of our control, even to us Old Bulls.
    Keep the reports coming. :woohoo:
    Cheers

Epic weekend despite the bloody dust. Thanks to all the blokes who made the effort to come and ride, from the comments made last night it sounded like everyone had a good ride. Best of all 3 days riding, no one hurt, no bikes destroyed and everyone smiling. Thanks to King Bolls for todays tour de rock latte sipping tourist ride to wind the weekend down, classic change of pace and ride along with morning tea at the Sheeba dams. Many highlights for the weekend but best of all was the huge grins on Nick and Sam at the end of a classic bit of Nundle loam single with 3 x 250’s flat out, bermed corners and fast, Boony was going to join the race but found a bog hole and played at filling everyone in. To quote the Dude – “SWEEEEEET”

My version of the 3 days of the HILLS OF GOLD ride 2012.
Friday seen snowy, Damus and me rather keen as we were ready to go at 8.00am. When we got to the van park the cabins we not ready for us to move into so we unloaded the bikes and headed up to the forest to gather some firewood for the ring of knowledge.
People started to arrive throughout the day and there was a gathering of old bulls starting to congregate at the cafe across from the van park as we all waited for the cabins to be cleaned. We were soon gearing up ready for a quick run up through the forest for a Friday warm up ride.
15 riders followed me up to the trails and then I handed the vest to snowy and lead the group through a few very dry and dusty trails. 70 odd ks later we were heading for the eskies, Poor Iva scored a flat during this trip and this was to hinder his whole weekend.
Once we hit the van park it was have a tub and hit the pub.
    Saturday
We were all up early, dressed, bikes serviced and ready to rumble. I lead the mob back up to the forest and then we hit the trails to the berry patch. Iva again scored a flat and when the boys were changing it they uncovered some issue with his tyre, Aaron did tell me what it was but who listens to Aaron.
The mob was whinging about dust or something, I thought this lot are weird, there’s not dust up here at the front.
I handed over to Snow to run some of the new trails but we had to cut them short due to a few delays in the morning running us behind just a bit.
I soon found out what they were carrying on about, you could see real flash but to the boys credit they kept the pace up and we were soon on our way to the berry patch for a feed.
As it turned out we rolled into the Berry patch a little bit ahead of time.
We fed us and the bikes and then back out to the dust bowl we headed. I lead to fridge hill and then gladly handed the ride over to snowy for last 50 Ks. The dust wasn’t as bad heading home and I got to have a play in the pack. I even found the odd puddle to play in,,(sorry ChrisT). I actually seen one of them moments no rider likes seeing when their out on the trail with their buddies, I was cruising up the exit road from the forest as I watched Krusty launch the Katto of a erosion mound only to have it land cross rutted in some mothers of ruts. Krusty hit that hard I literally threw my bike to the ground and ran to see if he was still alive,he lived and no I didn’t go through his wallet.
The rolling race was next. I went ahead and set the finish line and the sight of grown men elbowing each other and laying on their bike trying to win a rolling race was hilarious.
This is only a millionth of what went on .hopefully the others will fill in the gaps.
    Special thanks go to.
Damus and Polly for sweeping, Snowy for all his work leading up the ride. Bolls for his organizing the stuff he does. Aaron for!!! Hang on what did he actually do.

I had a ball thank you to all that travelled. I hope you enjoyed the weekend.

What a blast :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Thanks to all the Tamworthians for hosting a fabulous ride :woohoo:

Snowy’s singles were superb ;) both days :woohoo:

The Berry patch did their usual fantastic feed :)

I only had five offs   two were step offs one was a lay down in the soft grass :P
and two involved bouncing and tumbling :pinch:

Sunday was inspiring :) almost spiritual  so much so Sam and I decided to take the kato’s on an adventure ride home

We drove Barry road out of Hanging Rock across twenty creek crossings down to Ellerston in air conditioned comfort with no dust :) true adventure biking :P the katos handled it well :) although we did have to re-tighten the straps a couple of times

Sam said King Bollocks mystery tour was enjoyable :) he found the knowledge of the King inspiring (if it was true  )

Thanks to all that participated to make it a great weekend ;)

    Adam.

PS see you all in Coffs :woohoo:

    Friday

I left Yamba at 5.40 am on Friday and drove up onto the range to a very sunny Nundle , the old bull presence in the small town was obvious with bikes and blokes looking anxious to get into the bush.
We got into our rooms around midday , I was sharing with my mate ChrisT and we geared up straight away. Boony led us up to the forest and into a flowing twin track to warm us up , I was following Krusty on his new KTM 350 and we were getting along nicely as we headed to the first singles.
We have no real pine singles in our area so it was a real treat when Snowy took us into both freshly cut and run in trails. The pace was good and it took very little time to get used to the terrain.
About half way through Snowy called me out of the pack and said ‘ jump in behind me through this section , we’ll have a play ‘ . So it was on, Snowy was setting a good pace and I trusted his trail knowledge 100% by sticking on his tail and mimicking every move he made , Boony slotted in behind me then Chris-T to complete the four man freight train. This was one of my highlights of Friday and I hoped for more pine singles to come.
The Friday ride flowed well until Iva got his first flat through a new singles section that gave everyone’s suspension and reaction speeds a workout with hidden rocks and wombat holes. I ended up on a corner with Boony while we waited to see what the hold up was , he told me a bit about the new trails we were riding and it was obvious the effort that went into this ride and giving us some top notch riding.
Once we got going again we started back to the cabins through more sweet trails.
The first beer didn’t touch the sides and I had a great time chatting about the afternoons ride , everyone enjoyed themselves and spirits were high as we headed to the pub.
After a good feed and more beers I got an early night looking forward to what Saturday would bring :woohoo:

    More soon …..

Big Thanks to Boony and Snowy or is it Snowy and Boony for the organisation and leading. Thanks to Damus for sweeping both days and Polly and Bollocks tag teaming Saturday. Saturday

I woke up early and gave Chris a shout before heading out into the van park , everyone was up and looking very keen for what was about to come. Today we were also joined by Pep ,Bollocks, whanny, Kenny ,Steve from cycle tune and Kevdog on his new crf250. We geared up and rolled out of the park just after 7.30 , Boony took us up the mountain and into some nice twin trails , we took a rocky downhill which grabbed your attention straight away and I had a feeling I knew what was about to come. Sure enough a little creek crossing and a decent uphill known as ‘ the steps ‘ ( I think ?). It was a great arm pump hill and halfway up saw Krusty loose momentum and lay the Kato down. I followed Bollocks to the top impressed by his nice style on the new Crf450x.
Once we were all up the first hill everyone was frothing for more and the pace was on.
We entered some pine singles and I had a dice with Krusty who was getting along great in the tight stuff. I ended up behind Pep and thought I’d try to hang onto him , he was riding Bols Crf and I struggled to keep near him riding well out of my comfort zone. After hitting 3 trees with the barkbusters I decided to back off and admit defeat. Pep rides so well and floats through those pines at warp speed , it was great to watch. B)

I stopped on a corner and had a bit of a wait before Chris-T showed up looking sheepish. Turned out he too had taken on a local and came off worse. He got behind Aaron in a sweet pine single and lined him up for a race , by all account he hung on for a while but Aaron goes really hard and Chris overshot a corner and folded his rear brake lever back on a stump.

Once we started heading to the berry patch we were in some nice 3/4th gear fast flowing single line trails and made our way to Parachute Hill. Boony warned us it could be loose so I entered with caution , I’ve heard so much about this hill over the years I took it slow at first. About half way down Pep and steve flew by so I let it go a bit and really enjoyed this long long downhill. I’ll take Boonys word for it that it’s a big drop off the side as I didn’t look :D

It was a nice fast ride to the famous Berry patch where a well deserved rest and top notch BBQ and ice cream dessert was enjoyed by all.
A splash of fuel and we hit the forest again , the ride back had the lot , some fast twin track , native bush singles , creek crossings , pine singles and a rocky mongrel of a climb called Fridge Hill.
Once again Snowy gave me a nod that the next section was gold and Sam and I slotted in behind him for a super fast single , smashing corners and flying over erosion mounds. I think Sam would agree this was another highlight B)

About half an hour before the end of the dirt the fatigue was setting in for a few and a couple of little offs were happening. Adam had a huge get off as did Krusty on the same erosion mound with a rutfest landing. Both riders hit hard but got up unscathed.

Once on the tar Boony and Snowy announced the engine off rolling race down a steep tar hill with a couple of hair pins. I got a good start and ‘planked’ my bike trying to gain speed, soon Sam appeared to my right and glided past . We caught up to a 4wd right on a hair pin and I saw my chance with an inside pass to get the lead off sam :D. I thought I’d got it when ChrisT appeared out of nowhere and the three of us laughed and whooped all the way to the finish line!!
Chris won by a length then sam by a wheel. Bugger :D

Once back the first thing everyone did was dive in their Esky and hook in , we hit the pub again and had a great night also raising a few dollars for the local rural fire service. Back at the park the fire pit was face peeling hot so more cold beer was needed and plenty of laughs had.

As I had a big drive home I sadly missed Bols ride on Sunday but I’m sure it would have been a cracker ;)

Huge thanks to Boony and Snowy for putting together a very well organized ride with a great mix of terrain in a great location. Your both legends B)

Damus , Polly and Bol for doing a great job sweeping and the locals that welcomed us to their trails.

I had a great time guys thanks heaps :)
