Well the time has come to make room in the shed for a DR650. I’ve read about the project bike that was done last year and I’ve been to Vince Strangs website. Is there anyone out there bleeding Suzuki who can help me with basic suspension setups and what pipe to buy? I’m going to start with the basics and build from there and any advice would be appreciated.
Hope you join you blokes on a few rides shorty.October 26, 2012 at 10:27 pm #231501Hey there busy, TB did the set up on Dejays DR650 and it has done plenty of miles now. I am sure that they will be able to help you spent your hard earned

October 27, 2012 at 10:12 am #231506Thanks fellas just read through Dejay’s build. Couple of questions if I can… I’m thinking of a 20 litre tank from MX1 (Acerbis) over a 30 litre, not sure I need that much fuel for what I want to do. Any idea on fuel range with the 30 litre tank?
Might sound a stupid question but why on earth would you want to lower the footpegs? I see Vince Strang sells a kit to do it but I’m wondering why you would???
Apparently the stock seat of the big girls are ordinary… any ideas on what blokes are doing to solve that one?
cheers for the help
BusyOctober 27, 2012 at 10:14 am #231519Cheers, you happen to have a big tank?

BusyHey busy you lower the foot Pegz because the DR suffer from a cramped riding position. The 30 liter gives you more options, you don have to fill it every time do you? Fuel sloshing isn’t really an issue it’s and ADV bike not a motorcross weapon ridden by Bubba Stewart
As for the seat Adveture Moto do concept seats and gel seats. They have everything that Vince does (tanks, racks, backs, luggage, dampers, bars, tank bags, bark busters, blah, blah, blah everything) but you will get it cheaper the Vince and Steve at Adventute Moto is a site sponsor means you get looked after and he is passionate about people and ADV riding has had a long term DR himself. Fair dinkum they have everything there.Adventure Moto, Steve

/quote]Sorry busy, that coment was a bit tongue in cheek
I binned my DR a couple of weeks ago and it is looking like a write off so there may be parts for sale or not depending on the insurance and what I get next.
For me I look for fuel at the 450km mark with my 30lt tank which is 15km/lt. Some DRs I’ve heard can do 20km/lt which would give you 600km range. The tank will hold a liter or two more than the 30lt after the tank has expanded a little after a while. The Acerbis tank looks good and looks like it may offer a better standing position for the rider than I’m finding with the 30lt.
Which is solved a little with the foot peg lowering kit. It makes transition from sitting to standing easier and moves the pegs back 12mm and down 25mm (or the other way round)
Anyhow I took mine off because I don’t want my feet any closer to the ground for ruts to get hold of them, I ripped a footpeg off on a rock while using them (I’d say they were a major contributor, not just my poor line choice  ) and I bent one because they hang below the bash plate. 12mm stainless steel is hard to bend. Also need to consider the type of bashplate like the Whipps that need to be modified for them to fit.Air Hawk for the seat. Best thing ever if you set them right.
