    g’day guys at tekniks !

before i start, you guys have done work on our bikes a couple of years ago ( 83 XR350 and 85 XR250 rear shocks ) and we couldnt be happier

now days i got a 2011 CRF450x and im getting into pony express’s ( well actually the iron man side of things )

i havnt touched the suspension since i got the bike brand new except changing the oil in the front forks, and raising the front forks about 3-4mm in the tripple clamp

as i really got no idea where to start, after riding the CRF for 4 hours straight on braking bumps, hills rocks etc my shoulders and back copped a caining and was wondering what you guys can sugest to do ? i can get the suspension to you guys no problem or if you would rather the entire bike there that can be done, i just want the bike set up right so i can be more competative with the guys that have all the trick bits suspension wise

im 90kg i thought this would help too :)

    cheers nathan

    Hi Nathan,

The 450X is firm stock for sure, on paper the settings in it look more motocrossy (is that a word?) than offroad. While this is good if you are pushing it, after a short time most of us get tired, sit down and get beaten up.
As for the 90kg, you are just a bit heavy for the stock rear spring, you need to bump that up a rate, what sort of rider/static sag heights are you getting?
My suggestion will be a slightly more off road fork and shock setting plus a rear spring.
i don’t need the whole bike as long as you can set the sag up yourself.

before i start thankyou very much for replying !

yes it is very firm, i did race a round of motorcross on it and it seemed to jump well ( when it decided not to throw me over the bars i think that was my fault haha ) will definatly agree, after my 3rd lap in a 4 hour enduro my shoulders felt murdered !

ill get those heights to you asap mate, if you dont mind inboxing me how much id roughly be looking at for your service that would be great

as for setting the sag i reakon i can do that mate :)
