Went out to the shed today to see if bike was still there

Got my new radiator out of the box and started to remove the busted one

All was going well new radiator fitted in no time. :woohoo:

Then got my new toy out (fork seal cleaning tool) and cleaned and hopefully fixed my fornt leaking forks.

As im not much of a mechanic I was pleased with my efforts so far :)

I then started on cleaning the air filter. messy job but it has to be done. I have a spare filter so I quickly oiled it up and placed it back on the bike.

Thats when all my fun begins. :( The CRF has a very tight box and not much room for my fingers when trying to find the hole the wingnut bolt needs to screw into.

After about 40 mins and much swearing   I walked away to return another day.

Does any other CRF owners have a problem finding the tight hole in the air box. Any methods of success would be helpful :cheer:

hahaha yes this is probly the worst thing about the CRF’s ! i dread doing my air filter for this exact reason

just getting the bloody thing out of the air box is a struggle ! let alone back in

once you get the air filter in, pull the filter to the rear of the air box untill you can see where the wing nut screaw has to go into, try and line up the screaw then push the filter on and hopefully it should line up pretty close

OR put the filter on and jiggle the wing nut screaw around till you find the hole … but that gets fustrating quick

    hope i helped

Yes that can be a bitch. Me and a mate were talking about that the other day. I think they have made it that short so if it is not lined up properly it won’t do up. I had trouble when I first got the bike but seeing I change it after every ride it is easy now. If the bolt wont do up push the filter onto the cage a bit harder and make sure of the alligent. The main thing I am careful about is not to tear the filter on the top opening of the hole on the side door. I also have the top of my air box cut out which helps with positioning if you take the seat off. I run cloth chux soaked in filter oil and that helps to protect the filter from the bulk of the dust. I do wonder if the problems crf’s have with valves and dusting are because people don’t fit it properly or don’t service the filter because it is a prick of a job. Will be interesting to see how mine last as I change the oil probably to much and am very particular about the air cleaner. Watch this space.
