Looking on doing the following ride (Coffs to Wingham and return) over a weekend later in January.

    Day 1 – http://goo.gl/maps/QzuwR
    Day 2 – http://goo.gl/maps/bdJvi

I am fairly confident of the day 1 roads being OK but am not sure if all the day 2 roads link. I have followed Google maps before and find they are not always perfect in the forestry areas (read f**king useless).

Bikes will range from DR650’s up to R1100GS and we are really only looking for well formed forestry/country dirt roads, nothing hard, just interesting cruising and scenery.

If anyone has advice on them or interesting suggestions please reply. The main aim was to go to the two communication towers North of Taree to check out their view (no real reason, just because they are there). Also not fussed about the direction taken, it can be reversed if that is the preference.

Overnight will be Wingham, have not checked out how many pubs are there to choose from but if there is a choice, tips on the better one appreciated.

Anyone interested in joining in are welcome, should have fine tuned a date later in the week.

Narrowing dates down to this coming weekend (5th-6th) or the following (12th/13th) for anyone looking to tag along. Second one is looking better at this stage but still flexible.

Strucky and i will be out in the lansdowne to wauchope region tomorrow and we will probably be doing some of that, we will let you know how it is.

The Mayor is the expert down this way and I’m sure he can point you in the right direction.

Actually Moose knows some of that better than Mick as well I have noticed when we have ridden parts of it, both good sources

On you day two, as you are leaving Comboyne take the first right turn before Lorne road (bulli road) (still in town) and follow it for about 5kms then turn left onto Koppinyarrat road and meet up with Lorne road at the end of Koppinyarrat if you want some really scenic riding. It is only a short detour but worth the effort. That’s all I have to offer, otherwise it looks like a good ride.

After way too many beers last night it was decided the weekend of the 12th and 13th suits the majority best.

The main sections I am after advice on is the stretch from Beechwood through Rollands Plains and out the back of Kemspesy and Macksville. If any one can help it would be appreciated.

All good on the Rollands Plains to Beechwood bit. If you need a stop break we are 5min west from the Bellangry Pin. You should be able to see a dairy on the map.

Hi Dickie, you may regret that offer, I hope your fridge is big. Is there fuel at Beechwood on a Sunday? I was half planning getting everyone to top up at Comboyne but if I know some is available there it would be a better stop.

Do you know what Rollands Plains across to the Dongdingalong area is like? It is probably the main bit I am not 100% sure about that I haven’t been on yet.

    Cheers

If you go through Combyne just go down towards Landsdowne,I think you get on that road that Micknmeld said (Koppinyarrat RD) we used to have a farm on that road ,its a scenic drive down to Lansdown ,from there Wingham is not far away.

No fuel at Beechwood. Its a 2-3min trip back down the Oxley Hwy to Long Flat. I usually ride over to Willi Willi Rd via Torumbee Rd so haven’t been down those roads.

Fuel only available at Comboyne on weekdays. $1.78 a litre for standard.

Koppinyarrat road is closed below Slater’s road. No access to Lansdowne off the Plateau that way.

Good stuff again Dickie, I take it fuel is available from Long Flat on weekends then. What roads do you take to get to Torumbee Road, via Mungay Creek Road? What is the normal condition for these roads, relatively easy or more technical?

Not going near Koppinyarrat road so no problems there, thanks anyway.

I thank everyone for their replies so far, it has all been most helpful.

I still have not received any information on what Google calls “Clarefield – Dungay Creek Road”. Other maps I have looked at refer to it as the old Rolland’s Plains Road.

If anyone know sif this is open / passable it would be appreciated. We don’t mind exploring ourselves if it is a day fun ride but when it is part of a round overnight trip backtracking can be a drag. especially if it is still so bloody hot.

    Cheers

I would take my wife’s Nissan Tiida along Dungay Creek road. It is ialways kept in reasonable condition by the council.
