Ok I could’t find a thread on the Gopro so though I’d start one for tips, tricks and information on Gopro’s of all models. If i’m in the wrong section admin feel free to move.
I got the Black Edition and only had a chance to get it out on my MTB thus far. The new “3” models have the Wifi inbuilt so the camera can be controlled by either a remote or smartphone, but not both at the same time. The remote is awesome, can pretty much change any settings on the camera, including turning it on and off (as long as Wifi is on). The only issue I have found with this is battery time. I suspect this has to do with the Wifi. I haven’t had a Gopro before so I’m not sure what kind a battery time they normally get but mine was shorter than I expected today. All up I had less than 30mins footage and battery was down to one bar. I plan on getting extra batteries anyway so no big deal and for me having the remote is worth it.
Again on the Gopro app you can change all setting as well as preview you shots. The app is missing the ability to play back on your smart phone or download over Wifi. The playback is a feature I use a lot on the Liquid Image. This feature is supposed to be coming to the Gopro app in future updates.
I have only used the camera in 720 and 1080 modes so far but will give some of the higher res features a go just to see what it can do. Ive allso downloaded the Gopro Cineform software and plan on playing with the Protune feature.
So far I like this camera, it will be used for more than just riding and will be dragged around with my bigger cameras just for fun.
Quick vid from todays ride. Film in 1080/60fps and 720/120fps. Uploaded n 720.

January 3, 2013 at 8:53 pm #234937Thanks for posting your tips on the GoPro. I was lucky enough to get one for a Christmas present and had some filming fun these holidays whilst we have been doing some trailriding, adventure riding and some MTB in Onley State Forest. Your tips have been helpful and like you will be adding batteries to the accessory list. Keep posting up more tips….

By the sound of that Spud it could be your computer is fast enough for the footage my old PC at home does the same yet runs fine on the laptops and Mac
Could be your memory card if it isn’t a class 10
Give me a ring if you get stuck mate

Don’t worry about the pc playback for now Spud as you won’t be editing them just yet. Just watch it on your TV and decide which clips you like and then save the files to your computer. Then you can set up a YouTube account and upload them straight to the site. It seems like a steep learning curve mate but compared to what you can do on a bike it is very simple.
Just yell out if you need a hand.STM

/quote]The batteries take up to 20 cycles to get full run time. I filmed all day today and Spuds died half way through and it is brand new. By all means get more batteries but you will get better run time after more use.

January 4, 2013 at 11:49 am #234939Thanks STM I will just have to get it out and use it more to get the charges up.
Spud as already said that footage will be fine but you computer may be struggling to keep up. My old Mac is a bit jumpy with the raw 1080/60fps footage but once edited in iMovie and processed that footage runs smooth and when uploaded to YouTube all is fine.
January 4, 2013 at 11:56 am #234996You can also set the camera to one touch recording. This eliminates the standby mode and saves batteries. It also helps against the dreaded GoPro lens fog. Me and TB have been using the anti fog inserts and they do a great job, as does the skeleton back if the weather is fine and the dust is not an issue, but for extended battery life the one touch mode is the go.

January 4, 2013 at 10:04 pm #234997What’s the one touch mode? I have mine setup without the led lights on but still don’t get what you get out of a batterie STM and its had a few charges now. On the last Coffs ride mine ran out at the widow maker. I have never been impressed with run time.

January 5, 2013 at 12:14 pm #234995Just spent two days using my 3 and I have to say its ok, I find a few things disappointing and am loading footage now to see how it is against my old hero 1080 should be interesting. More later about the 3
