Last week i was going to wack a new plug in the WR while I had it stripped down to remove the rear shock but couldn’t get the boot off. It hadn’t been playing up or anything but aas I don’t know the history of the bike I thought I would replace it anyway.

The WR has the coil as part of the boot I believe and so you first disconnect the electrical connector which I did but couldn’t pul the boot off.

I tried to lever under the head of it with a screwdriver but wasn’t game to put too much pressure on it in case it snapped off. As I was going riding the next day I didn’t want to risk doing damage so decided to leave it for the time being.

I am not sure if it is related to my attempt to replace the plug but when I went riding the next day the bike fired up fine first up but after it had warmed up it wouldn’t start on the button (mostly, it would occasionally). I had to kick start it most times which it did quite easily.

So is there a trick to removing the boot or do I just need to resort to brute force?

The trick is blow compressed air into the drain hole for the spark plug area on the side of the engine. Should pop the cap straight off.
