Any body here been into Youdales Hut recently , Is it worth the ride in , just for the ride ?

I am thinking about organizing a ride from the Newcastle area to Youdales hut for the overnight and return via a different route the following day , but am not sure about the Hut and the track in from Racecourse trail , Can anyone here contribute some solid recent info ????????

    Cheers

Close to my back yard Alan but I haven’t been up that way for a couple of months. The roads are usually top notch thou.

    Gday Alan
I’m planning to be going past there next weekend and could probably detour to have a look. Or come along yourself

I have just mapped the route tonight and have not run these tracks before so we’ll see how we go.

If there s any interest out there to join me for an explore.. post up.

    lotsa

    Hi Lotsa,
If the rides open to anyone I would be interested.

Is it an overnight ride or just a day ride

To be honest I am not even sure where Youdales hut is,so don’t know if I live to far away to begin with to even go on this ride. 😆 with other family commitments on weekends :pinch:

I am helping Wayne with the Saturday plan so-

The plan is to leave from Gloucester Saturday morning[stay at Gloucester Pub Friday night], ride dirt over to the Oxley Highway, and keep going north to Saturday night at Bellbrook pub.

Next day return through the scrub on a more easterly path, perhaps heading for Wauchope? Wayne is planning the return .

All plans are weather and road/river condition dependent.

It’s not a proper ride as such James. More a couple of blokes getting lost in the bush.

Hope to have a chat with you on the next nave ride. Didnt get a chance at Woodstock

Hi Al, I rode through Kookaburra and Youdales Hut about a year ago now with a local Adventure guru here in Kempsey, knows that area and a good deal of the people up there too. Some of the Land up there is private some is now gated National parks but yes it was unbeatable stuff. If you’re keen let me know and i’ll PM you his details.

There’s a big gate on the Racecourse/Youdales Trail side. Best to contact Walcha Nat Parks and organise a permit and a key. Some of the rangers are a bit militant about bikes in the park.
You can get out of Youdales by the intersection of Kunderang Road and Spokes Trail on the Coachwood Road side. They have concrete bollards in the ground, but a bike can slip through no worries.
    Kunderang-Spokes Trail Google Maps
This might be a good option to either explore the rest of the Carrai Plateau or head straight down to Armidale Road and on to Bellbrook.

I have been through on Racecourse and Spokes trail many times in the past 7 or so years of Adventure riding , but never have I been in to the Youdales hut trail past the National parks gate , I know the key is available and where to get it but was not aware that the hut cannot be used to camp in , which slows down my interest considerably due to the need for shelter and keeping up off the ground when it is this wet consistently for so long , I’ll keep the ride in the memory bank and do it when the weather is more conducive to camping on the ground .

Well, you seem to know more than your post indicated. Youdales is worth a look though, it’s a sort of hidden valley with some great views and excellent riding. Tracks are usually well maintained, but after all this rain might be a bit ordinary in places. There are other places to camp on the plateau, Kookaburra Hut being the best of them. You can hire the hut from my friend Eric Walsh if interested. (041869-1473) Have you ridden to Marys View or looked down the valley from McMillans Hut? Carrai Ride Report
Also the old traction engine and Felters Creek Falls.

I have 100 acres with a shack at the bottom of the range. Its a good kickoff or rest point for these adventures.

Went from Newcastle to Bellbrook via Bundook, Knodingbul Road, Mooraback, Werrikimbe. The Youdales Hut track is closed with a locked gate, key available on application, but even without Youdales hut the ride from Oxley Hwy through to Bellbrook is superb and accommodation in cabins run by Bellbrook pub is cheep, clean and a good night in the pub. recommend it to anyone.

The ride up through Bundook and Knodingbull rd then onto Bellbrook is a beauty, there is a whole heap of country up in Werrikimbe that needs exploring! All within a day trip of my house!

    BTW, welcome to OBT Hippo!
