Hi All,
Looking at buying a new computer and thinking Imac.
:cheer: :cheer:
Wan’t to get into the video editing with the new go pro .
Any ideas as to specs for the new beast.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

You can buy top of the line for half your budget and get everything you need. Spend $300 on a printer and you are future proof. I have pasted the link for the new iMac here for you. These new ones are super slim and don’t have an internal dvd drive/ burner. I reckon you would be best getting the previous model. Similar price, but built in burner. That is the model I have that one and it is a brilliant machine. Plus it is much easier to view realestae.com on so it must be a tax write off

If you need a hand finding your way around the Mac give me a call.STM
March 8, 2013 at 11:26 am #237832Ditto on what STM said…
recently acquired the latest 27 inch model..
Wanted Power so maxed out less memory. After market additional 16 cheaper option.
3.4GHz Quad-core i7 16GB RAM 1TB Fusion Drive NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad Apple Wireless KeyboardIn heaven compared to the 2007 model I used…
Going to add another another 16GB RAM.. Slowly working the Magic Trackpad in.. useful for delicate manoeuvring while editing video or pics. Not liking the wireless keyboard. making it work because no wires wins. Love the 27 inch real-estate no need for 2 monitors now..
Map editing for GPS and google earth is very nice full screen as well…

Very nice specs Krusty!!
We may all argue which bike is best but as far as desktops go there is only one. iMac!! I prefer Android smart phones so I am impartial but iMac rule my desk space.

March 8, 2013 at 1:27 pm #237857I like my mac for movies I now run iMovie and Final Cut Pro on it.My ipad mini for OBT i had an original ipad 1 before but purchased a mini so it can travel on the bike. But for mapping and I do more than anyone here you need a windows based unit, I have a new laptop for that. The software is better and I purchased them all before I went back to a windows based for mapping. For some reason the map program’s work better on a windows machine. If you not mapping to that level go a mac as mentioned IMO

I just got a HP all-in-one for 800 bucks, its probably shit compared to a mac but it loads up porn and moto videos quick enough for me.
$4500 on a computer
Could get a decent 2nd hand bike for that.
March 9, 2013 at 5:01 am #237903Thanks heaps for the information.
If i could claim a bike as a work expense i would already have a new one.
I have been looking for a new bike just can’t decide what to buy
Computer now that i can. So though might as well get a good one and then it will last a few more years.
Any thoughts on programs i should get with it?
I have never had a mac before so have not got any

They come pretty well loaded up. The only thing I would recommend at point of sale is ‘Office’. They have a Mac version and if you heckle the sales person I am sure you can get a deal. Other than that, just wait until you find something missing and go to the app store and download it. Very simple and integrates without all the third party bullshit that you end up with on a windows system.

March 19, 2013 at 2:46 am #237833Ive just ordered a new iMac. 3.4ghz i7, fusion drive, 32gb RAM and the bigger video card.
Video and photography is what I do for work, have done for the last 20 years. I have owned macpro’s and powerbooks etc all of that time. The new iMac dusts them all in bang-for-your-buck comparisons.
I’m editing a TVC shot in 4k on my 3yo iMac 2.4ghz i7 now, its a little jerky when rendering 4k composites but works beautifully on 1080p sequences.

March 19, 2013 at 5:16 am #238485The Apple is the best of the bunch and is good for video editing and the cool factor. If you have other Apple products the integration between devices is also simple and easy to manage.
There are things I don’t like about the Mac though, mostly just niggly things having spent all my life on PC’s. On the whole though they are a good thing.
I have an Apple iPhone for my personal phone, iPhone for a work phone, iPad2, iMac, Apple TV and my girlfriends iPhone, plus I’m thinking about an iPad Mini.
I have 2 Dell laptops for work computers as well though and have just gotten rid of the dreaded Blackberry so I’m fairly impartial.
If you want to read the iBooks that you have purchased from Apple on your iMac, Macbook Pro or Macbook Air forget about it, for some reason they dont allow this???? This is an example of Apple’s (crappy) quirks. I’m only thinking about the ipad Mini because I can’t read books on a Macbook Air. I dont want to carry 2 phones, 2 laptops and an iPad everywhere I travel.
PS – Yes I know I can use Amazon or Kindle to read books on the Mac’s, point is I shouldn’t have to, I want all my files, music, books, videos in one place across all my devices.
