March 9, 2013 at 8:10 am #237908Hey Mick,
Thanks for a fun day! You sure know how to organise a great event, and I’m glad the turnout was excellent for you … I suspect you managed to exhaust almost all of us! :S
Sorry for not hanging around for the shin-dig, but I had to get home before my shoulder blew up like a baloon, the manual gear shift in the ute was fun on the way back (NOT), thank god I had young Leo with me to help with unloading bikes etc when we got back to Kempsey … you REALLY don’t want to be leaving bikes on a ute in Kempsey!!
Kicking myself for such a stupid brain-snap crash that’s buggered my shoulder, but anyway LIVE and LEARN: Lessons learnt and mental notes;
1/ Just cos Ferkenerkle does it doesn’t mean I have to follow him
2/ As if, from a standing start, in the clay, a two stroke is going to lift it’s front wheel over the slippery little sideways green bitch of a log (was actually more like a twig, but anyway  )
3/ Shit I went down like a sack of spuds … and SHIT that ground hurt! :pinch:
4/ PATIENCE!!Had a top day, thanks again and it was great to meet a lot of OB’s that I’ve only ever known by site name and avatar
Toes and Moose, thanks for sweeping all day, awesome.
And Boony, even if you post the video of my brain-snap crash … I’m not watching it, my lesson is in the pain, not the video evidence.
Have fun tonight guys
Razz
Hey, I just realised … that’s my first motorbike related injury in 28 years …. COOL (and ouch) :woohoo: :pinch:

toesMarch 9, 2013 at 10:28 pm #237944What a great turnout!
It was great to catch up with everyone at the RSL on Friday night, everyone behaved themselves knowing that they had to ride the next day. (With the exception of Boony, who looked like death Saturday morning, and the addition of the Tutu over his ride gear didn’t help at all).
With the extreme weather events we have had here over the last 2 weeks, that dumped 28 inches of rain on the trails, I was a bit apprehensive about what Bago was going to throw at us, as we had only managed to pre run 30kms of the proposed loop in the week leading up to the ride. I needn’t have worried as it turned out. Apart from a lot of extra logs and sticks on the trails, Bago was prime for riding!
As the ride leader it was great to look over my shoulder as we left Breckenridge and see 30+ bikes following me up the road.
It was also great to see the buoyant mood of the group at each of our stops as it was obvious they were having a great time. The first big hill was our biggest challenge for the day, with no OPTION B around it, everyone had a crack at it with varying degrees of success, with the Old Bull Spirit in top gear, everyone jumped in and gave assistance, encouragement and also some piss taking of the finest order.
With a broad cross section of skill levels of riders, it was a little hard to gauge what to throw at the crew as far as trails go and still make it a great ride experience for all involved, this required a few of the riders with minimal trail experience to step up and challenge themselves, a special mention goes to Gero, who on only his 2nd trail ride ever, gave it 100% on the DRZ400! I bet he will be feeling it now though! Rach on her KTM350 had a go at almost everything and even surprised herself with what she accomplished during the day! Another rider that deserves a mention is Amy on her ADV WR250, that was a whole heap of bike to be punting around those trails and she did a great job, getting over logs and all manner of obstacles, all the while cussing me out, in a manner that would make a wharfie proud!
To have that many riders on one loop and the only two things go wrong were a punctured radiator and a broken clutch cable, is also a credit to all involved.
A few thank yous are in order,
Firstly to Barry and Shirley at Breckenridge Farmstay for their generosity in donating a lot of the food for the breakfast and then going all out and having those awesome roast beef and gravy rolls ready upon our return, how good were they!!! Their facility is first rate for a group and event such as ours.
Thanks to Snowy for donating all the orange juice for the weekend and TB for the cold drinks he delivered to us during the ride.
Thanks to Toes for the 5kg of prawns we smashed into after the ride, they topped the day of well! They contributed nicely to the ring of knowledge that went well into the late evening, I can’t remember laughing so much in my life.
A big thanks also goes out to the local Boys Moose, Toes and Gasit for their sweep duties, no ride as big as this can be as successful without the sweeps, cheers boys!
And big thanks to everyone who donated money for Down Syndrome NSW, it allowed us to raise in excess of $1300.00!!
Further more, thanks to everyone who turned up in the right frame of mind to have a ride and a whole heap of laughs!
What a great couple of days!
March 9, 2013 at 10:45 pm #237871What a great couple of days!! Another top ride in your area Mick!! Thanks for organizing it…. The drinks and ice at one of the breaks was a great relief…. cheers TB

March 9, 2013 at 11:52 pm #237872Thanks for a top weekend! Always a bit nerve racking turning up to such a big ride without really knowing anyone but didnt take long to feel like part of the group so thanks alot for the warm welcome guys. Was nice to put some faces to the names. It was great to ride in such a big group and know anywhere along the way there was always a bit of help and support if needed.
Mick you sure do have a nice backyard up there, the tracks áre unreal and I think i could get used to being met half way by a support vehicle with cold drinks(thanks TB). Was great to meet Amy and have another girl on the ride, top job on lugging 200kg worth of bike around, I dont know how you did it! Booney thanks for having my back
Heard a few offers for a guided tour of Nundle ……. will definately be taking you guys up on that offer
Here is a group shot taken at the lookout …. From left to right its: Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Michelle, Mike, Mike 😆 😆
Not a bad looking crew:
Oh and then there is this guy
(TB, Booney was saying something about he is feeling cheap and you need to cough up the tutu $ 😆 )
March 10, 2013 at 12:32 am #237949Another top day out in Bago. Well done!
March 10, 2013 at 1:37 am #237951I have to agree with all the comments, I am so disappointed I didn’t get to finish the ride with starting issues and eventually back spasms. I haven’t been able to move too far since I laid down and the back cooled off. Better see the back cracker tomorrow!! The missus was happy I came home in that state for our wedding anniversary, they are such understanding souls…..no going out for dinner afterall.
But it was great while it lasted, met some great people, the sweeps were fantastic when I got stuck and had starting problems – there was more than one OBT helping me that was shaking his head at these European left hand kick start contraptions!! They do take some getting used to and are impossible with a strained back. So I couldn’t have got as far as I did without them.
Barry and Shirley really looked after me with food and drinks (and painkillers) while I waited for the group to come back in so I appreciated that hugely.
Thanks also to Unit for riding me out – I was glad he could get back out and rejoin the ride and finish the day.
It was great to catch up with some familiar faces from Tamvegas as well so I hope to get over there soon to experience the Nundle ride, please keep me informed.
Thanks Mick for organising and everyone for the hospitality I hope to get out and ride with you guys again soon.
Congrats also on the funds raised.
