The Roundabout Inn was the meeting point for dinner & catch up on the Friday night at Gloucester. The Place was packed as it was the show weekend. The music was St Paddy themed and Matt Zarb was playing. The room had been pencilled in for the Saturday night instead of Friday but the Publican soon found us a bed each and after a prolonged dinner and entertainment the crew went to bed with a full tank of fuel.
Lotsa was leading the Ride taking us to Willawarrin….Where is that ….30 Km West of Kempsey.. .
Riders were Lotsa, Mickp, llewdert, Boulder, Reece Y, Gavb.
A short stretch of black to towards the flying pig and we turned left into Bakers Cr Rd.
Nowendoc Rd and then followed Enfield Range Rd through to the Enfield Forrest and emerged at the Oxley. We lost Scott at this stage as his foot peg on the beast completely snapped off. The peg was found but that was the only mechanical failure on the journey. He left us at that point to return home using a short 8mm bolt as a foot peg.
Next was through Doyle’s river State Forrest & Werrikimbe National Park. Looking for Werrikimbe Trail. We found it to be a locked gate.
Detour #1., found us a beaut clean picnic area for lunch at Mooraback Rest area.
We were on the search for Youdales Hut & Trail. Yet another couple of Locked Gates. But apparently you can get keys from the gods of the forest. This then led onto the Racecourse trail which was as twisted and slippery as most of you guys on this site. What a ride sliding and having you on edge the whole way. We were meant to meet up on this road anyhow so it was a little bonus.
We cruised onto Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, Willi Willi National Park and Carri State Forrest. We were almost at the destination of Willawarrin and was checking out the crossing that gave us heaps of grief on the Taylors Arm Ride last year. This was supposed to be Sundays fun but they had replace the crossing with a brand new one, specially for us. Must have felt bad about Joe falling in last time. 10 minutes to go and everybody hadn’t had enough.
Detour #. 2. A special test stage 55km was in order. It snuck us through some Private Property ascending to the top of Boonanghi State Forrest & Nature Reserve. The descent was very decent with arm pump building up I wasn’t game to stop as I might get run over by Boulder, not too far behind riding the big gun. It was such a good hill it was decided to go the other way the next day. Getting into Willawarrin was rewarding and Mickp only had a couple of teaspoons of fuel left in the tank. We were unsure if he would make it to the fuel pump 100m away in the morning.
The pub that night was cranking so much that at 8.00pm the barman was starting to close up. We were the only people left. No problems though we were made welcome to carry on as long as we liked. I think I was in bed at 9.30.
Sunday we got up bright eyed and bushy tailed had a delisious breakfast, refuelled and set on our way Detour #.3, down Willy Willy Rd. Fantastic winding road with a little dust thrown in to make us feel at home.
Wayne found a great route home. Kumbatine NP took us to new heights and awsome tracks that drop off, only to be slowed a little on the erosion jumps put in specially for us.
Every road was covered in leaf litter and it swirled and lifted as you passed. What a fantastic section. This led our way to Rollands Plains, Belangry SF.
We then had Detour #. 3 with a road closed . There had been trees down on all of the trails but it was only one that gave us grief as most had been cleared already. No Probs. Gavb had a saw and we set to work. Before long we were on our way and through Willi Willi NP, Mt Boss SF and out onto the Oxley Highway.
This is where things got moist. Doyals River SF. The bridge was out and we took the water option.
I was enjoying the water so much I decided to wash the bike and most of my gear. Im sure there are better pics of this.
Boulder was a little apprehensive but with the determination in his eyes he split the water in two.
Lunch was well past by this stage and we were dubious about getting a feed at Ellenborough Falls. This was already arranged by Wayne. The Lady there was awesome and a great feed.
Curry in a hurry and the day drawing thin, we detoured down Bulga Rd which was mostly dirt and last refuel at Wingham where we headed home with the sun glowing in our eyes.1040 Km for me door to door

Boulder, Gav and I had our bluetooths on and it was funny in one section up some steep hills with large erosion humps that just kept going up and up and up. Gav was ahead of boulder with me keeping clear of the shrapnel flying out the back of Boulders 990. I could hear all this huffing and puffing in my headset and I said to Gav it sounds like you’re working hard up ahead they must be getting steeper, next thing Boulder says “I think its me puffing”. 😆
He might take the DRZ400 next time, I was was getting tired just watching him wrestle the big Kato around.Mickp
It was a good weekend away on the bikes
March 21, 2013 at 11:22 am #238604My take and a few pics
I wanted to have a look north of Gloucester and pub stay for a night so loaded some tracks on the GPS from a previous ride, some from others and some unknown. A good recipe for an adventure ride.
It was going to be just a couple of us and ended up being six in total who were willing to potentially get lost, bogged, injured or a broken bike. GavB, llewdaert, Boulder, MickP and Reece.
After finishing up work on the Friday, I motored to Gloucester to meet up at the pub, finding GavB at Morisset and llewdaert at Stroud. The rain bucketed down on us the last part of the Buckets Way. It was an early night for some after a feed, drink, chat and drink.
Day 1
After a cooked brekkie we left Gloucester and were met with thisI love a dirt road that disappears into the mountains
llewdaert stopped when he found he was Flintstoning his bike after a bit of a jump
What’s missing
A bolt was found to replace the foot peg and the good old vice grips added a bit more but llewdaert rightly decided it wouldn’t be very enjoyable riding the rest of the ride like that so he said goodbye and headed south.
Nice place to work on a bike though
We came across a German guy on a Tenere 660 that had ridden from Perth just before the Oxley Hwy to chat to. I think he was a bit wary of our G’day. He gave us a wave as we regrouped at a turn a bit further on though.
Reecey saw the camera out and came up to pose for a photo
Just around the next right hander there was a log off the ground on his side which I went round and from what I gather Reecey was all over the place to get around it which had us laughing.
It was a bit deceptively greasy in places and I had big front end loose which scared me half to death and I thought, I hope that doesn’t happen again, or I’m a goner.
I thought I was down but somehow, skill I’m sure, recovered the front. Reecy had a good view and was beeping his horn in our traditional way and we were laughing like hyenas.
GavB
MickP and Boulder
We went up here
Had some lunch we brought with us here
Need to get a permit and a key from the ranger to go through
The gate to Youdales Hut is the same deal
Through a bit more closed in trails
We were off the mountain and the heat came back
Boulder
Open dirt roads now
Cooling off on the causeway
MickP
Reece
Gav and Boulder
With a few hours to spare we went to check out some more tracks and then headed for Willawarrin pub for the night.

If it’s made into a nav ride you can lead yourself into the unknown
Got to do it again soon in reverse
March 21, 2013 at 11:44 am #238612Looks like a great ride guys, great pics too.
looking forward to a ride up there.PTW
March 22, 2013 at 10:03 am #238614Day 2
Bill opened up early to accommodate us with a top brekkie at 1980s prices
We set off south for home starting with some open dirt roads with NASCAR corners good for keeping corner speed high.
There were a few of these
GavB
Boulder
MickP and Reece
Then headed up into the mountains
All logs chain sawed for us
If only I had my camera quicker
There were some nice little up and down hills with erosion humps
Gav hamming it up
And we ended up here
Good sign
A detour was in order which was more interesting than the road. The bush saw came in handy
We had lunch at Ellenborough Falls. Very nice curry. And a coffee. And a chocolate dessert thingy. No fuel in Elands at the moment. The shop has been taken over by a co op but they do sell liquor. And funny smelling cookies by the looks.
We were running out of light so slabbed it home from Taree. Got home at 8pm and had a beer in my hand at 8:00:30pm
Thanks fellas. Great riding country and company.
