After looking at some footage of my last ride noticed theres heaps of swing arm deep ruts that had been hiding and are gunna cause some carnage once they fill up over the wetter months.
Have never thought about using a different tire for seasons just keep them in good shape and turf them, do you switch it up for winter and what do you use?
cheers.
May 31, 2013 at 6:04 am #242740Hey twobanger,
Never really thought about it but now you mention it might be worth some thought.
I guess you would be after a more open pattern for better self cleaning :blink:Far too deep and meaningful for a friday arvo, thats heavy shit!!
I might have to think about it on mondayMay 31, 2013 at 6:14 am #242741I’m working all weekend Trailrider so i’m trying to get distracted already
a mate uses s12’s all year round i’m expecting a few votes coming in for them. when i was at Suttos i saw them on the rack and think ill give them a try.
May 31, 2013 at 6:17 am #242742Hey Banger
I reckon the Michelin S12 is tough to beat when the ground gets soft. Keep it off the black top though. They self destruct!STM
May 31, 2013 at 6:33 am #242753Single trailing S12 rear easily the best tyre around IMO. Front another Michelin M12 as good IMO as the S12 front just wears better.
Second rear Dunlop geomax and front Michelin M12 again it’s too good to not be second choice again
IMO
I changed my riding style a little over the last couple of single trail rides and got great wear out of the S12s
if you don’t just hang the tail out for the hell of it they wear well and like Scotty said stay of the tar and treat it with resect they will keep an edge. Spin them up and you can have a smoking carcass in 220kms  especially on an XR 650. if you ride something that produces NO horsepower or torque like a KTM they would be my sole choice

May 31, 2013 at 8:03 am #242755I currently run an S12 on the front and a scorpion MX Extra Mid on the rear. I was put onto this combo by my local bike shop after having a lot of trouble with traction on the wet clay trails in my local area.
I still fall off but it’s more to do with my riding ability than traction. In short I think it’s what ever tyre that instills confidence no matter what brand or compound.
Just my 2 cents worthBuzz
May 31, 2013 at 8:23 am #242743Four seasons in the winter ansell fro the rest of the year
May 31, 2013 at 8:52 am #242744thanx all, TB the old 2T spent lots of time wheel spinning but this 4T more time getting traction.
STM i don’t do much if any tar so all good in there,i’m keen to give a s12 a go and just heard the forecast for rain on the weekend so all those little holes will be filling up.
Andy29 didn’t think of that but once we get a few weeks of rain all the tracks i go to will stay that way.
Buzz ive always meant to put an s12 on the front, but they didn’t have any last time.
Heres a clip from last year for a laugh  , this little sucker is deeper now but i am going to remember it this year.
May 31, 2013 at 9:00 am #242759If its a wet forecast and going to be muddy for a while i go on the rear an S12 ( it doesn’t last long though ) but the Dunlop Geomax MX51 is my favourite all rounder , it finds good traction in all conditions and grips to the end. Ev’s wet greasy rocky creeks last weekend were a good test for my 23 hour old Dunlop and with a steady throttle I found traction comfortably
Michelin M12 front works well for me in all conditions ( I didn’t get on too well with the S12 front in really wet loam )

May 31, 2013 at 9:04 am #242745Your air pressure would have some sort of affect too. I spouse for the type of riding you do …

May 31, 2013 at 9:39 am #242762Bought the CRf 12 months ago and it hasn’t rained in tamworth for just as long. Starting to think about sand paddle tyres

May 31, 2013 at 9:56 am #242746I run kenda washugals front and back
they have never let me down, they hold their edge, traction in all terrains and can handle been ran at low pressures
I had MX extra scorpion on the back and running at around 10psi the inside of the side walls started to fall apart
I have a Dunlop on the back at the moment that I ran at bike territory, only reason why was because I needed a new back tyre and couldn’t get a washugal ( heart broken ) running 15psi it lasted the 4 hour extremely well but did slide out on me once on a flat dry grass corner, but other wise no complaints about it
May 31, 2013 at 10:46 am #242747HeyJamie, Same as TB for me the Michelin S12 rear and a Michelin M12 front.
As strange as it sounds the S12 rear in a 140 actually wears really well.Your big 510 will love it mate.
I have tried so many combinations over the years and find these excellent all year round, but most of my riding is from March through to December.
Are you keen for a run at Clarence in a couple of weeks?
Cheers Marty
