Just starting to think about getting my gear sorted for the birthday ride and read through the old threads on what to carry in your tool bag and how to carry extra fuel.

Hmmm I have a small problem I can’t wear a bum bag (hurts my hips too much) and I can’t put anything else in my backpack as I have serious back issues and just can’t carry the extra weight.
I will get a fender bag so that sorts out my tools but what about the extra fuel??

Anyone ever set up thier husky with extra bags etc?

    Hi OG,
I carry the heavier gear for longer stops in my back pack (Tube, tyre levers, pump, chain breaker, shifter etc) and lighter stuff in the bum bag (small spanners, screwdriver, Tbar, cable ties, elec tape, lollies – incase the rider needs fixing ;) ), keeps the bum bag light – might help.

You could try a small bladder on the rear guard for fuel but your Husky should get 100 k out of the tank, which on most rides ( non adv) I would have thought would be enough.
If not make sure you ride with someone that has a DRZ or XR ;)

Do you know something about the birthday weekend that I don’t??

If a kilo or 2 extra weight in fuel in a backpack is a problem for your serious back issues, how much will the back hurt riding and crashing?

I don’t think you will need extra fuel or tools at the Birthday Ride anyway.

Just go out and cut a few laps then come back in for a rest, fuel, drink and food.

Unless you plan on going on the adventure loop…………

For what you are going to do at the birthday ride weekend you wont need to carry extra fuel. Extra fuel will be needed at the camp in your jerry can. I would also go so far as to say you wont even be really that far from the camp to carry tools or a tube (I know I wont be ;) )

Hey OG you won’t need to carry fuel at the birthday ride mate, a Kerry can on the trailer will be fine.

As for your tools, fender bags are good but be careful with weight as they can make your fender bounce around alot and toss the fender bag when your not looking.
I have seen guys stash things on there bike, break and clutch strapped to the fork tubes behind the headlight, tyre levers under the seat, maybe try to spread your gear around a bit if you can.

LC – it hurts ALOT when I crash and/ or drop the bike. But seeing as I’m not a big girls blouse you’d never know how much pain I was really in B). Anyway, I’m sure you’ll be a gentleman and pick my bike up for me

Thats a good idea about stashing the stuff around the bike. I already carry a spare tube behind the headlight. I might put some of the other stuff under the seat etc.
Haven’t been on the bike for over a month  apart from test rides to fix some starting issues, so I’m relieved to hear I wont need extra fuel for a long ride. Am bringing a 20lt jerry so that should cover me I hope !

If you stash anything on your bike make sure it is secure and it won’t vibrate around or pinch a wires and short your bike out.
I have a fender bag if you want to give it a go, if you like it you can have it ( I don’t use it )

OG get one of the wolfman rear packs I’ll find a photo somewhere, it is the only bag I have had that hasn’t fallen off, holds my entire bumbag so I don’t have to carry it around my waist.. Ill find a pic.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Cheers Chris. ooopps totally forgot I have one very similar to that   . I think its a bit bigger though. I remeber now I didn’t want to put it on Antonio (the bike) bc I thought it would look ugly  . Can’t help it I’m a girl…. I will always choose style over function

But that wolfman one looks ok actually.

Hi OG .Would make sure bikes already full with fuel if your only bringing 20 ltr.
As for tools ,wouldn’t worry, sure there will be plenty of helpers and sweeps.
And camp isn’t that far away.If you get stuck out in the bush ,its all good .They caught that
    malcom bloke.
