a bit of a proposition has been put to me about sherco, now my question is if you could get a good price and service would you buy a sherco?

what are your thoughts on a dealership in the hunter valley

I reckon I could be tempted HB, would have to be a good deal and need a local dealer I liked and trusted.
The Shercos seem a pretty good thing, dont hear anything bad about them. I liked Mal’s 5.1 sorry cant be more helpful.

    Yeah

A local guy we ride with had a Sherco (501??) and it was a bit problematic and not just due to maintenance . He got Tekniks to do a full suspension rework and I took it apart for the work to be done. One major fault was that the boot from air box to carbie ran so close to the pipe it was distorted and sucking unfiltered air. When we put it back together it was impossible to alter how the boot sat in conjunction with the pipe.
It maybe isolated to this model but worth checking out I’d think :)

I have thought about them before, they always seem to get good reviews and I haven’t really heard a bad word about them.

My concerns were much the same as everyone else, resale (being able to not the extra depreciation) and dealer support for parts / go fast bits

I test rode one at Kowen Forest a couple of nyears ago and it seemed a pretty decent bike. Mind you I was getting off the DRZ so most bikes would feel pretty good in the Kowen singles compared with that. The only thing I didn’t like was that it didn’t feel like it had any more power than the DRZ. I was riding it like a DRZ though keeping the revs low, these days I realise you need to run them in a higher rev range than a DRZ for best result.

Local service and parts would be a big thing for most people I would think, not sure where you even buy them from at the moment.

If your thinking of getting into a dealership it might be worth talking to Boony, he was looking into a KTM one for a while. I know they are different brands but he might have some insite into the pro’s and cons of it all.

I think all the 07s had that issue with the air box Nick. Probably 08 and 09 too. Mine melted the box outside the filter so was no real issue. I just patched it up and put a heat shield on to protect it.

I’m going to buy another Sherco soon if the Gasser goes or wait and sell the Gasser at the end of the year and buy the Sherco 2T.

Out of the Sherco, Husky and Gasser, the Sherco was easiest and quickest to get parts for. I have a dealer in town and he got Sherco engine parts in two days. Try and do that with Husky. I had to buy a kick start assembly of floor stock as my local Husky dealer couldn’t give me a definite delivery date. I’ve waited months for a front guard brace for the Gasser.

Now Sherco have decent suspenders I’ll be going back. Looked at a 300 4T today. :woohoo:

I sold my 07 510 within two months of advertising. Didn’t get what you would get for a KTM of same age but happy with with what I got for it.

I’ve got a 2011 Sherco 300i. Done about 1000kms. No problems. Never let me down so far! Seat height is lower than my lowered WR450, which is great for us vertically challenged riders and it is 25kgs lighter than the WR. Big difference in the tighter stuff and when I have to pick it up off the ground at the end of the day! Local dealer is an hour away from me and has been extremely helpful (Triple R McGraths Hill). Comes well equipped from standard – brembo brakes, hyd clutch, good rims, suspenders, shocky, on the fly mapping, magic button………. Genuine parts are priced very reasonably actually. There are also cross references to other manufacturers for bearings etc. Next bike will be another Sherco!
    Cheers budge B)
