After one day on the nav ride I notice the triumph was a little sluggish …. where did my wheelies go? This would be the reason
Thinking of Buying an XC, be warned, cleaning the air filter is a PAIN IN THE ARSE. Dissassembly required
Solution is Unifilter Pre-filter …. Taadaaa
You can play with it for a bit
And then you can install it
problem solved
One other complaint, triumph should rubber mount there body fixtures, superglued this one tonight and noticed another broken piece underneath the front guard, Ill take it apart aftter the next nav ride. Plastics are relatively cheap but this shouldnt happen on a bike billed for adventure touring. Mind you, I do flog it a bit but ….
July 25, 2013 at 12:03 pm #247018Same with 800 Beemer Mr Squiggle. A pain in the arse to change air filters. A set of uni filters coming soon.
That filter is filthy mate. How long since it was changed?

A one day ride through the barringtons and the Nav ride ace, the snorkel has a rubber bra but dust tends to feed into the under-seat area from the wheel well just behind the engine. Im going to see how the unifilter goes and if needs be stuff the gaps with something that will not catch fire and kill me or beef up the rubber curtain with some clark rubber product. Hopefully problem solved though as is.
July 25, 2013 at 12:10 pm #247025I’d be interested to hear how those pre filters go. Keep me posted please.
July 25, 2013 at 12:11 pm #247026Nice work Shane, I know what a pain in the ass the filters are to get to. Fancy having to pull the tank off to do the air filter and lest not talk about want need to be taken off to get the tank off
When I fitted the one to the Adv Moto tiger the pre filter stops it getting to the filter, happy daysTB

Glad to hear it, triumph designers should come down here and do a run across central australia before the release an updated version. Love the rest of the bike and that motor is just a dream.
Did you do anything with rear suspension TB?

Yup The wizard at Tekniks Nick supplied a Yaguar rear shock with remote preload. Works awesome and is well priced. Nick is the importer I think. He also fixed the forks is such a better bike now

July 25, 2013 at 11:53 pm #247030The Veestrom I had was the same, 30 odd bolts to get everything off to get to the filter under the tank.

Hi Ace,
I fitted a Uni Filter to my 800 and haven’t looked back. I have checked on the air filter a few times since and the pre filters do all the work, nothing seems to get to the main filter.
For the record you will need to trim the air intake tubes where the pre filters go on to. I was rather apprehensive about cutting the tubes, but it’s the only way and it’s really no biggy in the end.
Go with the Uni Filter, you want look back, they are great!!!

Thanks Amy, I’ll prioritise them on the very long and growing list of needs and wants. :S
Did you replace the paper filter with the foam uni filter as well or just add the pre filter?
July 27, 2013 at 7:56 am #247111Just a quick heads up for all Tiger owners.
I have the pre-filter fitted. No discernible difference in power and main filter MUCH happier now. (you should have seen mine after the St Albans nav ride).
But a week after the Lithgow ride my Tiger blew the main fuse so lots of pretty lights few a few seconds then no starty. For some reason best known to Triumph the main 30 amp fuse is under the battery and a pig to get at.
What had happened was that all the red clay in the Lithgow area had been flung up underneath the bike and had blocked the drain hole in the battery box. Which of course had filled with water over the next wet Sydney week, submerging and shorting the fuse.
There is a mod that can be done to relocate the fuse to the top of the battery. I’ll be doing it as soon as I buy a soldering iron and learn how to use it. How hard can it be?

My 30Amp fuse blew the other day and I replaced. Stupid place to put it. The manual is useless but a bit of tracing of battery cables and it soon turned up. If your’e in the hunter valley I am pretty handy with a soldering iron, we can do both of the them

Hi Ace,
Yep I replaced the paper filter with the foam Uni filter…I purchased mine as a package, not just the pre filter.
I haven’t notice any discernible drop in power.
Cheers,
