” so your’e going to be led deep into bushland in an area your’e not familiar with, with people you haven’t met before?”
“Yeah honey, what could go wrong”
some people dont understand bike riders
Well, this was first time I have showed up to a graded trail ride with people i did not know, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Only I my way home from the ride, at the newsagent I pick up the latest issue of Trailzone, and on pg 24, I notice a photo of Galey, captioned ” …also known as the Torturer”!
Fortunatley, medogrocket was on a comeback from a knee reconstruction, so this saved me from to much punishment.
After introductions and some warm up on a nice freshly cut single line practice loop through the grass, off we ventured.
As we progressed, some mention was made of getting to hill climb that during the A4DE was littered with fallen bikes and stranded riders. Toby Price even had dramas. Nervous? just a little
” keep your momentum, she’ll be right, just dont stop” was the advice medogrocket offered
Soon after, up we went, that was a little tricky, but ok, anticipation of pain is worse than pain itself.
To confirm, casually i comment to Galey,
” so that was Slate hill?”
” nah , down this gully and we’ll find it up the other side”
Now for the real thing, after seeing Galey cruise up, monkey see, monkey do. half way up, arm pump, but going OK, medogrocket thunders past, front wheel of the 570 floating. Thats how i’ll do it next time
After a relatively event free but thoroughly enjoyable half day ride, a big thumbs up and thanks again Galey for the invite and showing us some ripper tracks. Normally I ride more grade 2 typical bigbore adventure type terrain, and try ( try )to ride at a grade 5 pace, so it was good to get a little bit out of my comfort zone and into a bit more technical terrain. Gratitude also to medogrocket for imparting some local knowledge and shared sense of humour.
Looking forward to getting out there again soon!!
