Christmas. It just keeps on giving! This year, I scored a small video camera, a 3SixT which I believe is sold at Big W for under $50. It is an obvious Go-Pro-knockoff – not that there is anything wrong with that!

It comes with the camera and a handlebar mount as well as what they describe as a helmet mount. I’m pretty sure that a major difference in the price between the Go-Pro and equivalent and the 3SixT is the mounting hardware – it is really only just adequate.

The camera itself uses Micro SD cards, and does not come with any.

I have managed to get the handlebar mount to work on my mountain bike and improvised a mount on the handlebar of my DRZ250. I had a ride on each over the weekend and have a couple of videos to show you. Shame about the dirty great thumb print on the lens with the second vid!

Anyway, first impressions are that the camera works fine, the waterproof case is fine. The mounts – well the helmet mount is just woeful, while the handlebar mount does work. I will have to find a way to mount the camera on my dirt bike helmet independent of the crappy mount supplied with the unit.

Would I recommend one? Well, for under $50, it is hard to beat, especially if you are a bit handy and can make or improvise mounts for yourself. It is no Go-Pro, that’s for sure, but it does what it says on the box with no drama.

Here’s a couple of videos so you can see for yourself. Both had the camera mounted on the handlebars – which explains the shaky images.

😆 Yeah, Youtube “fixed” the shakiness and I’m not convinced it is better to watch because of it! Still, when you mount to the bike the image will always shake. Keen to get it on a helmet and give it a go. Did you notice the cameo by Boony’s fan club in the DRZ clip?

Spent some time fiddling in the shed tonight with an old headlamp mount and bits of old pushbikes, and I think I may have found a way to mount the camera on my helmet.

    I’ll give it a test tomorrow hopefully…

Yes TB, tried to get it lower but the bits I have limited the choice somewhat! I will mention your feedback to the manufacturers of the pushbike bits and bobs I scrounged! 😆
