My weekend started with an 80k run from home thru the Watagans to meetup with James at the Letter A. A few close encounters with some wildlife, small wallabies, scrub turkey and a defiant Goanna,,,
Heading back across with James in tow, it was decided that Watagan Forest Rd is now to be known s “Brokeback RD” (I will let James explain) also had a run in with the same stupid goanna :laugh:Up out the top of the mountains and slabbed it on some back rds to Buchanan before making a run for the Wallaroo SF. It was warming up so I decided to skip wallaroo and head up Black Camp Rd to Alison then we hightailed it to the Bank Hotel in the heat to line up for a T Bone that took an hour 20 mins !!! :S Lesson learnt there !!!
Topped up the fuel, grabbed some roadies and ice as it was really warming up
From there it was a dirt run up the twisty mountain and back down the other side to Frying Pan campsite. There was quite a crowd gathered already as it was 3.30, so we headed right up the back of the camp to find a good shady spot and hopefully keep distance from any rowdy dudes etc :dry:We were welcomed by Rod and co from the BMW NSW Club right from the start, and they really made all who attended feel right at home , even Pumpkin & Postie owners 😆
We set up the tents then hooked into a couple a beers while wandering about camp checking out all manner of bikes, brands and thrown together creations.
Met up with Popz and his son Matt (great guys), OFBM on his 950, Thunderdan on his wicked Dakar style 750, Harry from KTM Newcastle just to name a few.
Ace would have been in his element with all the Beemers and I reckon the 800`s were the most popular weapon of choice,,,The presentation kicked off at 7pm and there were some good laughs and pisstaking going on there, followed by the raffle (James & I got stuffall outta that)
BBQ steak sangas with mushroom, potato & onion hit the spot before retiring back to the tents and a cool drink or three.
Popz & Matt paid us another visit to check out the bikes and chew the fat for an hour or so, discuss the Rideadv nav rides setup and how they run and plenty of laughs. There were some shenanigans later in the night with some revving of someone`s bike and bouncing off the limiter to a rising hoorah from the entire campsite (approx. 300 people) but all in all the crowd was very well behaved and a great bunch.
Sunday morning brought a lot of early risers attempting to get packed and beat the procession back down the mountain.
James & I skipped the bbq brekky in favour of an 8.00 departure and headed down to Monkerai Rd helped pick some old mate on a roadie that had slid outta control on a corner then headed left back up the mountains towards Terrible Billy
(BTW, How was it Popz ? Did you head up or did I scare you off ???)James & I headed back just before Terrible Billy as my GPS shat itself with the route and I was not sure of the trail to take across, also was watching the clock to ensure I was home for the young blokes 17th B Day lunch!!!
So I ad-libbed a bit and we did some great back rds thru farmland, some with sketchy marbly gravel and wound our way back across Bucketts Way and to Booral for a cold drink and a Pie for brekky.
Then decided it was getting pretty warm and we would slab it home to beat the heat and get me home on time as well (which I did by 11.45)So now that I have checked my maps & routes, we were heading the right way James and had about a klm to go on that twin trail before the next turn mate,, sorry for the stuffaround,, and I will now just have to get back up there as discussed and re run the trip in reverse in prep for another run sometime in the future,,, Wigster Are you in for that mate ???
Verdict : KRR was a fantastic well run event in a top spot and I will be back for sure. Maybe even annually .
470klms for me for the run, not big but still a good ride
Cheers
Some of my pics from Saturday,,
A lot wouldn`t load to photobucket for some reason :whistle:February 9, 2014 at 9:33 am #254040Great effort by you Eags for this weekend thankyou
Even though it didn’t go entirely to plan I had a great time.
Except for about an hour or so this morning  it was a great weekend away on the bike and interesting to see all makes and models of bikes at the rally.
Likewise great to meet Popz and Matt, good luck with the bike hunting and hopefully catch up on one of TBs rides in the future :woohoo:
Brokeback rd is definitely NOT a place to have a flat or a breakdown that’s for sure Eags   Especially on your lonesome it wouldn’t be your tyre getting plugged
February 9, 2014 at 11:14 am #254041Eagle 02 pretty much said it all. Here are some pics from our trip back via Berrico Rd and upper Monkerai, Moores Rd.
When we stopped at the Monk of Monkerai for a break we even pick up a Hitch Hiker.
Didn’t know he was there until we stopped for fuel at Dungog, the girls at the servo where happy to have him. :woohoo:
February 10, 2014 at 10:24 am #254045Did I just read about a bmw event on OBT??
someone there might have had a spare front rim in their shed for me?
Sounds like I might have to give this ride a go next year.
Good RR guys!
