Ok so i have been seeing a few people talk about spoke torque wrenches around the place and was wondering if people like them or just stick to the old tap around and listen to the thud of a loose spoke an tighten accordingly? Also i have the odd seized spoke from not spraying them after washes (only 3) Can i just soak them and use a pair of vice grips and a spoke spanner to loosen them or are they gonna have to come off?

I build a lot of wheels and I just do them by hand and feel, be careful you dont do them to tight. To tight will cause a lot of broken spokes and hubs

Yeah, but before you do keep soaking then for a few weeks with some sort of WD40. When you clamp them with the vice grips, make sure you dont let the spoke slip in the vice grips or it marks the spokes. Also a quick jerk is better than a slow pull

Thanks for the reply. I have been soaking them for a couple of days so will keep going.
