I’ve recently rebuilt the top end on the 530 (new piston, timing chain, cylinder replated and cleaned up the valves)
I also did some jetting to the carb and a bit of an exhaust unrestricting mod..
The bike is now running great, loads more power than it used to..the only prob is it now seems to labour a bit up steep hills and I’m having to down shift where as before it would just keep chugging..downshifting results in the bike being almost uncontrollable just too much power..It’s kind of like how the old two strokes used to behave..
I’m not sure on where to start looking at rectifying this, sprocket size? Jetting? Exhaust?
Any ideas?October 20, 2014 at 8:11 am #259936For a cheap experiment I’d try dropping 1 tooth less on the front sprocket (for say $35.00 outlay) and making 2nd & 3rd gears a bit more useable on the faster technical stuff.
October 20, 2014 at 9:23 am #259940I reckon if u changed the jetting it will likely be there that the power has changed. Did u change needle or just jets?
October 20, 2014 at 9:32 am #259941I would look at the jetting as Nato said, try going back to your original jetting and see what happens. It is a free test to see if that is what caused it.
October 20, 2014 at 9:37 am #259942Also if you unrestricted the exhaust you may have lost a little low down grunt to gain more peak power. I would try to richen up the midrange, richer needle or move the clip position down a couple of slots.

As far as I know,
These macines have enough torque to pull a foreskin off an elephant, and then some. :pinch:
Sometimes its worthwhile to just stick with the horses
I’m on the 2012 500, and its always a handfull in the stuff we do.
To tell ya the truth, I do not need no more herbs/HP
Yeeha
Love
MurphOctober 20, 2014 at 11:35 am #259937Sounds like jetting but I just thought I would throw another idea out there. Is it possible that the exhaust cam could be one tooth advanced? If the going back to more original settings with jets doesn’t work try the exotic ideas.

October 20, 2014 at 1:30 pm #259938Thanks I’ll play around with the jetting. Went from a 40 pilot to 45 and down one clip slot om the main.. Who knows may need to be even richer failing this ill try the front sprocket idea. Not sure what you mean adam.. Do you mean the cam chain mabey a tooth forward on the cam?

CheersI was thinking that when it was at top dead center that the exhaust cam witness marks would not line up with the top of the head. It’s not really worth checking unless you “exhaust” the other avenues first.
October 20, 2014 at 8:07 pm #259952did you put a high comp piston in it or just a standard one mine ran a bit rough right down low with a high compresson piston but was heaps better
