As the heading suggests I have booked in for my first dirt bike ride in about twelve years.
One of my best friends has turned fifty so for his birthday I booked into a company called Ride ADV, (some people may have heard of them).
We are going on a two day ride from Lithgow on the hire bikes (WR250’s).
I have not been on a dirt bike since I sold my old KDX200 about twleve years ago.
If I said I was looking forward to it that would be an understatement.
After the ride I hope to have a few photos and I will let you all know how it went.
I am expecting to be very sore but hopefully the grin factor will take away some of the pain.October 27, 2014 at 1:35 am #260045Yes Craig you are going riding :woohoo:
Here are you and your mates hire bikes, the RideADV hire WR250Rs. The bikes will each have an “A” service checkover this week at GFMS.
Craig and his mate have hired our WRs as they have moved from pre run duties to hire bikes. We will be starting a build on 2 new pre run WRs very shortly. For a fee the guys get 2 setup bikes, a 2 day ride with a route of their choice. (route is put together on the information from the customers, expected distance they want each day, destination, accommodation requirements, camping, pub, motel and time etc) A lead and sweep rider travel with the guys, then can either navigate GPS style with supplied GPSs or cornerman as this one will be. The guys can either carry their own luggage or have it carried for them. They turn up with riding gear and its all there , they pay for their accommodation, food and alcohol.
Looking forward to this ride

October 27, 2014 at 4:28 am #260052I am sure you will love it Craig, those bikes are fantastic I am reliably told and the rides themselves are terrific I can tell you from experience. The RideAdv boy will really look after you.
November 6, 2014 at 10:10 pm #260046well we had our ride on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We set off from Blackheath early in the morning and ended up in Kelso for the night.
via Cullen Bullen and Sofala.
The second day saw us making our way back to Blackheath via Janolan Caves.
All up I think we covered about 550Km’s which I know is not a lot compared to some rides but it was enough for us.
As I said in the original post I haven’t been on a dirt bike in about 15 years and Mal has had very limited experience off road, (almost none).
To his credit TB was very patient with us. He kept saying he was enjoying himself because he usually goes through the same places at a greater speed and now he had a chance to actually look around. He even was able to bullshit to us with a smile on his face. :cheer:
The impression that TB left on Mal was pretty strong he mentioned something about finding a new person to stalk. 😆
I could not fault the little WR’s. They were great and the perfect bike for what we were doing. The set up with the suspension, gearing etc was very impressive. We had a good mix of dirt roads, tight tracks and some very challenging slow sections. Even the sealed roads we had to ride on were all twisties and fast sweepers.
There were a couple of off’s but I think given our lack of experience that was to be expected.
Early on day one I even managed to get TB to fix my back wheel. I was not paying too much attention but he removed the wheel, broke the seal on the tyre and reset it and replaced every thing in what seemed like less than ten minutes. We were at a servo in Capertee and believe it or not they did not have an air pump so Greg had to inflate the tyre manually.
So far everyone I have spoken to after the ride are sick of listening to me carry on about it.
Was it good? no it was great.
I can not recommend RideADV enough they are very professional and TB made sure we had the best possible time.
If any one is looking to do some thing like this then you need to get in contact with RideADV.TB has some pictures so hopefully he will be along to put some up soon.
