So the aftermarket headlight cowl on the 690 was coming away due to poor mounting technique (keep it clean guys) so I pulled it off to strengthen the setup and in doing so I came across this electrical connector that has burnt out. It is for the heated grips and I assume is on the low temperature side of the switch as only the high setting was working.

So the question is, what is it and where can I get a replacement?

Its a resistor, not sure if you can buy them separate. Try Scott at Sutto’s or Brad at Ballards

And yes its needed, I will look I may have a spare kit that has been robbed

Thanks mate. I will try Jaycar as I head back OS on Thursday morning. If they don’t have them I will try the others when I get back

    Jeffro,

    Jaycar certainly sell them.

You need the resistance and wattage, hopefully still visible on the old one.

    Adam.

Your right Adam, Jaycar do sell them (all sizes) but knowing what resistance and wattage is the big thing and unfortunately the markings on the old one are long gone. I will need to do some research to find out what is required including working out what brand the grip warmers are. Lucky winter is a fair way off.

I had the same sized resistor on the heated grips I used to run.
I put a strip of heat shrink over the top of the resistor and it gave it some protection from doing what yours has done Jeffro. I did have one fall apart early days and sourced a new one from Jaycar.

I may have a spare resistor here somewhere too mate, I will dig around in the cave and let you know if I find it. You can have it if it`s still there mate (next time your home for a visit) ;)
