First impressions of the new bike after a three day ride up here in gods country.
Just remember my ride ability is just below shit.
First trail was an all time favourite about 6 km of normally overgrown jungle. Someone had cleared it up and turned it into a race track so I had the pleasure of chasing Boony thru the trail from start to finish. I was super impressed at how quick I was able to ride this trail until I realised the bike that was up my arse the whole way was my old crf with a manically grinning Demus on board.
The rest of the first day was spent learning what the bike was like and I have to say that the brakes are sensational after they saved my over confident ass on a very tight corner I went into way to fast. The response and steering on this bike is simply unbelievable and it really is like steering a bmx bike when your in tight singles. Think about a corner and your around it !
Day two saw a smaller field of riders thanks to a few logs and some get offs on day one and too much grog that night. We started with a warm up on some disused twin track, then hit a very long technical single section. I lead this part of the ride and was blown away at how easy the Sherco made the trails to ride. There are some good up hills in this sect ion ( not murphsberg by any standard) and playing with the mapping switch gave great control over the power delivery. By the end of this section I was in love with the bike, it just moves around effortlessly but has a gut full of power to get you out of the shit when needed.
The afternoon ride started back up the first trail from the first day, this time with me leading and two ktm 5 something’s chasing. This was a fun run done as fast as my freckle would let me. The boys on the big bores had the power to catch me but a tight track and unpredictable line kept them at bay. Talking about the run they reckon they could have gone a bit quicker but not much and a decent rider on the Sherco would I think have had them really struggling, again largely to its handling, quick pick up and amazing brakes.
Toward the end of the day we detoured to have a go at a pretty decent rocky hill climb. Normally I’d run a mile to avoid these things but my confidence was up and remembering matts advice to use the dumb mode for tough climbs, I gave it a go and surprised myself by going straight up and generally in control the whole way. Down hills are made easy by the brake capabilities but also by the handling as you can move and turn the bike with absolute ease to change your line, avoid mongrel vines and forest debris and this just adds to the confidence level.
In summary – it’s bloody brilliant.. I can only imagine what a good rider could do with this thing.

February 23, 2015 at 10:01 am #261102Yes you have made a great decision on that bike for the riding you do. They are certainly fun to throw around. Good write up mate.
March 4, 2015 at 2:22 am #261167More thoughts after it’s first service.
Two sump plugs is weird
Who puts the oil filler cap right under the header pipe?
No oil dipstick is weird and having the viewing window behind the rear brake lever is stupid.
The space around the oil filter is so tight you couldn’t fit a pube up the side of the filter so you need to pull the filter out with a magnet.
Weird French designers I supposeSo service done and went for a ride and instantly forgot the service issues. This bike rocks!
March 4, 2015 at 5:08 am #261103Snowy,
The new machine sound great, just like you’re starting over. have you got your moose tubes in yet?I know you don’t get punctures but… you don’t what to say too loud, new tyres and all.
I had a brand new front ran it about 10 lbs and got 6 holes in it. If it wasn’t for slime and tubliss I would still stuck at Nundle.
Look forward to seeing you and the toy down here. Discussions with Col has started. ๐ฟ
