Apparently any persons that drive a ute and places any item in the back can be fined by some new law.
You now must have a cargo net to stop items falling out.
I am a fire rescue hazmat nsw employee and in the event of a crash or roll over this new item does absolutely nothing.(Trust me. )
I have not been notified by rta/rms/ of this new law.Which is wrong as I have 3 utes registered with them.
No sure of the legalities on that one.

So if you have a ute don’t put shit in the back ,or get a cover for it.
As its open slather to fine drivers.

Your right mate and it’s been in foe some time, I heard a story that a local plumber got fined $50 an item that was unsecured and it added up to hundreds $$$$!! Even the net type covers are no good if the police can take an item out through the net its still a fine. I got a Mitre 10 mesh cover for$70 , it’s strong and not too much of a hassle to get on and off.

So trailers would be the same then.

So what about bike trailers with say fuel drums tied on with ockie straps they should be tied on with load restraint straps with max load capacity marked on them like the bike straps.

It just never ends. But I can see why :silly:

Mate, said law enforcement officer books little old ladies with there hand bag sitting on the passenger seat.Shopping on the back seat also.Trailers would be the same.

We must all be law abiding so they need new laws (that are not told to the average worker) to make there pay.lol

We have had to cover our loads for years and the cops have gone a bit quiet of late with enforcing it. Apparently the law was first created after some tradie at the Gold Coast killed or maimed someone when something came out of his ute and hit them. If a projectile is coming at you out of the back of my ute watch out as there is a rolling ute not far behind it. I do like to use the net still to hold down large light camping gear. If something is big and heavy enough to come out of the ute and cause damage to a person or thing then it needs tying down with something better than a net. It’s simple really but you can’t police common sense so we have a stupid blanket law. The most important thing I can say about this law is if you do get pinged over it put your tail between your legs and be respectful to the cop or you might find the fine getting worse. This happened to a dirt doctor in QLD. He started arcing up and the cop ended up counting every item in his ute and multiplied the fine.

Fellas this law has been in for many years. It’s called an insecure load. If a law enforcement officer (be it police or RMS ) can walk up to your vehicle and lift or move an object no matter the size or weight without untying some form of restraint or cover you can be fined. The rules are even tougher for commercial carriers.
If you go to the RMS website and type in load restraint guide line it will set it all out for you. I hope this helps.

    Cheers Buzz
