Im thinking of trying a 120 rear, only ever used 110, surely it could only increase traction, is there any reason not to ?
June 30, 2015 at 9:08 am #262194Hi BelligenEv,
my 300 exc had the 120 standard and I found the 120 hard to get , but torpedo 7 had them.
I liked them. But I’ve gone on to the Moto Z hybird. It’s got about 850+ k’s, I run it at 6psi not going back.
Cheers Gordo
June 30, 2015 at 9:32 am #262198My Beta 450 came with a 140 and i changed to a 110 , the faster turning was the main improvement in tight singles , not sure about traction overall ( I guess your talking hard hills Ev ?) I’d be keen to know your findings if you go the 120 , a tyre that can handle low pressures without trashing the side wall would have to be important too !!
June 30, 2015 at 9:47 am #262199a mates been using them for a while I rode his wr and couldn’t notice any difference in the handling and hes never had a flat, its interesting the Beta came with a 140, they must do that for a reason, what did the dealer say? I wonder what romaniacs use
June 30, 2015 at 10:32 am #262201The larger 140 on the rear seems to be the extreme riders choice, maybe with a mousse tube , I think that’s the equivalent to 8-10lb could be wrong ??
June 30, 2015 at 8:30 pm #262202Those 140 tyres are the same size as most 120s. Different brands have different sizes. Michelin 140 = Pirelli 120 etc….
Whatever you do Ev stick with a 100. 110/100 or 120/100.
120/90 will have a lower profile side wall than a 110/100

Cant say I really notice a traction difference being a 250. I ran Dunlop 120’s on the XR650R and width wise they were just a bees dick narrower than a 140 S12 Michelin.
Try it in short

June 30, 2015 at 11:12 pm #262196I went to a Pirelli Scorpion mx extraX 120/100/18 on the rear of my 300 and I think it is great. Great grip in the wet stuff and on the singles. Prior to this I had a Dunlop 100/100/18. not a bad tyre but I was frequently getting pinch flats with that tyre and have had none since going to 120 and still run the same pressure etc. Probably just a coincidence and I will now get 3 flats this weekend. The 120 beside a 100 is significantly taller and maybe a little heavier. But I will be sticking with the 120 from now on. Try the 120.
July 1, 2015 at 8:07 am #262211Food for thought, gotta say im tempted to go even bigger after hearing nicks Beta came with a 140, it sucks though that the sizing isn’t accurate, a 140 in a rut dug by 110s would have to get more traction, hey nick what brand was the 140?d do you still have it?

Either way it was a fat beefy tyre and did the job , I only replaced it because I was used to a narrower tyre !! These days I don’t really care that much if it has grip then it’s my job to scrape together the talent to make it work
After all Spud uses a Chinese swallow , rock hard, no size , almost bald rubber ring and smokes us all
July 1, 2015 at 8:04 pm #262216I suppose I should add that learning how to ride will help you get up hills Ev!!! Haha
And get a Pirelli MX or XC mid soft 120/100

July 1, 2015 at 10:27 pm #262197When I visited the Sherco factory a couple of years ago, all the 300 4 strokes where delivered standard with 140’s. Maybe this was just for Europe?? Cheers budge
July 2, 2015 at 11:45 am #262223120/100. Just better.
