Nundle 29/11/15
After a couple of unfortunate drop outs for todays ride due to work commitments and some being just plain soft (and broken – I think they are both linked together) 3 of us turned up to make some dust in the Hills of Gold.
Boze, Demus and I started nice and early in the cool which was a fresh change from the past few days.
We headed out and started on Snows single which required Demus to pull out the handsaw in the first few hundred metres to tidy up a fallen tree. So basically we were buggered already. Well I was and I was just watching.
This single is awesome. The ground was dry so plenty of grip on a few small hills which when wet can make a rider look like gumby. A bit of dust about but from where I was in front it seemed fine.
We then headed on and did the first of the old singles then made our way up past the back of the hut. This section is nice and flowing. You can just hammer the throttle between 2nd & 3rd with some heavy breaking, hell at times I almost felt quick, until I checked behind to see a 500 and 250 doing it all with ease.
We then made our way to a pallet crossing which I have only done once in the past. Apparently there used to be a fallen tree you had to use to cross this section but now after someone’s very impressive carpentry skills the drop offs either side thankfully didn’t come into play.
Punched on to one rutted out small climb which I over thought and went to the side in search of a smooth line and perhaps some grass to get traction, only to get too much traction which sent the front wheel well above the point I am comfortable with. Back to the bottom to have another go. That’s where I watched Demus and Boze just ride up the centre of the bloody thing. Too easy. :pinch:
Finished by coming home via Back River which is another nice flowing section, small berms on some corners etc. I will hopefully post some gopro clips if I can remember my password.
All in all a great day. Went out, rode, got back to the cars in one piece and now beer in hand.
Also to note, Boze and I have put Geomax At81on the rears of our bikes. Very happy with them especially their breaking ability. If anything they look to be wearing quicker than the Pirelli extra x I used in the past. Time will tell.
I also tried to run the tyres at 12 psi today. Normally I run 10 – 8 psi. I found the rear was fine but the front felt more twitchy and I noticed I few times I got a bit of head shake (probably my lack of ability). This confirmed that I do like to run lower psi so I may look at a tubliss system soon. So if anyone has some feedback that would be great.
Cheers
